This stuff is gonna hurt LeBron’s legacy. It’ll be two times in a row he’s left a team in tatters by the time he leaves so he can chase his rings. The Lakers get better with Davis, that’s obvious. But is giving everything up that you have long term worth it. For casual fans and bandwagon fans it is, but I can’t imagine die hard Laker fans like the idea of the roster they’ve been building for the last three or four years being dismantled for a two or three year run that might not even produce, especially with all of the Golden State stars getting older and seeing that their biggest rivals are building a team with clever draft picks and good free agent signings.
2016 was great for us but it was probably the only time a strategy like that was justified given our championship drought. Lakers aren’t short on banners. What happens in 2025 if AD is in the last year of his deal, LeBron has already retired and all they have is a string of vets on one year deals or terrible contracts and no draft picks because they all got traded away so LeBron can have rings? Cos that’s what Cleveland is now.
