I get it. He's always been right in the past though, recently with the AD trade demand. He's a serious behind-the-scenes dude, not an on-air personality out there looking for hot takes or to spread gossip. Unless he just now decided to start trolling me, I'm confident that it's true."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread
I saw an opinion on social media that I hadn't thought of, but I actually agree with. Dude was saying that Magic is a nice dude and just doesn't have that shrewd cut throat mentality that many great executives have. I can see that. I remember the J Kidd Lawrence Frank stuff years ago. Magic likes being lovable social Magic. I can see it taking a toll on him. Still, abruptly stepping up down like this with no coordination with the team is a bad look.

He opened businesses in the inner city when everybody else was scared
He owns the dodgers, partly
That's a silly take

Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread
I think he wanted to protect his image when the Lakers strike out on the big names this summer.
I mean...they are going to have to go out, hire an executive, and sell FA's on teaming with an older, grumpier LeBron and a young core that looks much weaker than it did a year ago.
Magic got out before he could be totally saddled with that failure. Now it's Rob and Jeanie (who is the real problem here) that get the most blame.Too Old To Game Club

Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread
He said he cried before he did the press conference. He mentioned how he loved Jeanie and aganozied over presumably firing Walton. How many times do you figure he struggled that much to fire someone in his other business ventures? He talked about the whispers behind his back. That's nothing new for a man of his success, but this seems like it hurt him.
It may be a silly take to you. That's cool. It's as valid as any of the other speculation to me.

Magic is a successful man. Theres no doubt about that. Along the way I'm sure he has had to navigate some treacherous waters. This seems more personal, though.

He said his own business was exploding.
He was working with a guy he didn't like.
Presumably someone was leaking info from the inside, and no matter what the scenario he was/is the fall guy in all of it.
He also said it had nothing to do with Luke Walton.
Luke Walton was told by Magic Johnson to "shut the f--- up" when he tried to interject during their October 30th meeting, according to a source. Rob Pelinka was also in attendance at the meeting.
Johnson tried to downplay the severity of his early message.
“I think everybody blew that up,” Johnson told reporters. “They over-blew it. Sometimes as a president, you have to have a tough meeting with a coach. We had a tough meeting. And after that, it was fine. And it’s been fine. I haven’t had any problems with Luke. People think we’ve had problems, but we haven’t had any problems. Just because I want us to be better and I want him to be better? If I had come back, we all had to be better, right? I’ve made mistakes myself. But also too, everybody had to be better. And that’s what it’s all about. But that’s my job, to demand that.”Last edited by 23; 04-10-2019, 02:12 PM.Comment

If he didn’t have any problems with Luke, then why would you consider firing him, especially considering what he was saying prior to the season?#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread
I think he was answering their question about him personally having an issue with Luke.
They tried to make a story after that particular meeting. He basically said they didn't agree on everything but that's life.Comment

Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread
Curious if Jeanie will hold onto Luke and Pelinka or start completely fresh. I'd start fresh with a clean slate, they even fired their athletic trainer.
What's funny about the Magic situation though is LaVar Ball months ago said Magic was basically a figurehead to attract free agents and didn't actually have that much power and now it looks like he may have been right, lol.Comment

Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread
This lawyer dude just tweets on the Lakers.. I guess it doesnt affect him if he's not working on anything for them.
Says Jeannie's best friend is Kurt Rambis' wife who loves Pelinka and is in his corner
- He thinks she gets bad advice from her inner circle
- Says Jeannie could be out if the family votes her out, and they've even considered selling the team.
- The Kardashian trainer was fired today, but he has his own company and they never even got him an assistant, so basically they had more recurring injuries do to lack of a training staff.
- During the tampering investigation they got a statement from someone, but that someone was caught lying when they confiscated their cell phone... Probably Rob?
- Says if they wanted to legally they could fire and sue Rob for some damaging stuff he did, but won't say what, and not that they will, its his legal opinion.
- Says Magic is definitely more ruthless than you think and wouldn't have lost sleep after firing Luke.
- Says Pelinka was a Kobe demand/favor, and Magic never had a relationship with him
Bunch more stuff its crazy...Comment

I see a lot of Lakers fans want to snatch The Logo from the Clippers, I kinda want it to happen. Little brother teams in shambles this summer.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it
