Can we stop comparing to MJ, please?

I cannot believe how crazy some people are. I hear, mainly, that Kobe is close to MJ or could be the next MJ. I used to hear that Tmac could one day be the next MJ. And yes, my man Lebron, is compared to MJ. Most people agree that lebron is not MJ at this point, despite the fact he's barely 20 yrs old and one of the 5 players in the L in the running for MVP. I think it's ridiculous to say he's as good as MJ was, you won't hear me saying he's as good as MJ was in his prime.

Kobe is shooting 40.7 % and leads the league in turnovers. His fans say his 3 rings and clutchness ought to give credence to him being MJ like. Can you all stop? Look at the facts. MJ didn't have Shaq, he won 6 titles, and 5 MVP's. For all the rings Kobe has, he has never won MVP, nor the Finals MVP. Now that his bread and butter, Shaq, is not around, his team is only 18-14. He can't shoot straight w/all the double teams, something MJ COULD do. He can't create without turning the ball over. Stop the comparisons. Kobe is more like Allen Iverson than MJ.

As far as Tmac goes, fans of his for some reason, have had the logic to stop the MJ comparisons, not that there were many. For all future purposes, I trust no Tmac fans will compare him to MJ, despite the fact he is an amazing player.

So, I'm not picking on one individual player here, but please, anyone stop it. Don't anyone say any of these 3 is as good as MJ was in his prime. Most people don't do it, but a small group of people keep saying Kobe is = to MJ, and it's annoying and stupid. MJ was the GOAT by a mile and still is. Don't insult MJ. When one of these 3 averages 30 points, on, here's the KEY, 50 % shooting, and his team is a 50 win team, like MJ's was before pippen came around, then you can ThINK about saying something like that. But for know, only James is shooting near 50 %, and all 3 aren't gonna win 50 games this year. the point is moot. Let's leave it at that.

Just for clarification MJ is the best at his position of all time just like Wilt was probably the best center and Magic one of the best point men. It's comparing apples to oranges. You wouldn't say Joe Montana was the GOAT but the GOAT at quarterback. You can't compare him to Lawrence Taylor. IMO it's the same for all team sports. Wilt and Oscar Robertson both dominated thier positions in thier era more than MJ did his so to state any player in any team sport is the GOAT is pretty laughable.

I think its fair that he did. When looking at the Kobe is a statguy thread, its apparent that people no little or nothing about Jordan. One thing some people seem to think is that Jordan made his name by winning rings as a team player but in reality his first X years he was a one man force and carried his feeble teammates on his shoulders. If you want to compare Kobe to someone, compare him to Dominique Wilkins. The NBA hasnt even been very good in Kobes era. Please, stop the insanity!

Why make a new thread cause one guy compares Kobe to MJ????

The fact is most kobe fans on this board wouldn't do that just cause a few guys do doesn't mean you need to make a thread for a topic that has been done over and over.

Has this thread been done before? A typical scenario starts out criticising or praising Kobe then someone makes a reference to Jordan for comparison. Half the time the reference to Jordan is so narrow it makes you wonder how old the poster is. If someone isnt familiar with Jordans career (even beyond knowing stats) then its really not appropriate to put forth such a comparison. Its not fair to Kobe but more importantly its not fair to Michael...not to mention it just makes one seem foolish. Its a common enough occurrence that it is a topic to itself. Whether or not it should be made a thread is an arbitrary choice that rests with the admin but as long as you are going to question its merit, I can likewise justify it as a stand alone topic since neither of us are admin.
