    Re: NBA getting better?

I think this is the beginning of another Golden Era of basketball, much like the Mid to late 80s up to the mid 90s.

I mean, after Jordan retired, the league was dominated by one or two teams every year. If you've been watching, you know what's been happening, I don't gotta make a longass post of what happened between 1998 and 2004.

Now, there's 10 different teams that could possibly win the championship. Anyone can lose and anyone can win on any given night. Shooting is better, defense is better. Role players are filling in nicely. Lebron James, TMac, Kobe, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Garnett, Shaq, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki, maybe even Carmelo, Jermaine O'Neal, and Ben Wallace--All future Hall of Famers.

There's different styles of play for every team. Fastbreaks are more prevelant. Hardnosed, halfcourt defense is there too. Shooters are re-emerging as real threats. It's a good year for basketball, and it seems as if it's getting better each year.

the biggest reason IMO is that the past eras teams on average would have 20 more possesion each, and that translates to more points than anything IMO

I really like the way the game is being played this season. It's kinda funny cuz the Pistons won and usually the league will follow the style of the champion from the previous year. Instead we're seeing uptempo, high scoring teams counteracting the defensive teams.

BTW Fratello wasn't always a defensive head coach. He coached in ATL and they had a pretty uptempo team there. The Grizzlies are also playing less of a defensive style then you'd see from a defensive minded coach.

I think the biggest thing is that we have a lot of young talent in the NBA and a lot of contenders for the crown. I can't see a team winning back-to-back championships over the nextg 6-8 years, but it's really hard to say that..just a feeling.

Part of the reason I'm enjoying the NBA more, though, is because Charlotte has a team again, and it won't be hard for us to be in contention soon because of the parity in the league. We're already playing well now anyways.

Fratello got that tag in Cleveland. We had the slowest, "walk it up" tempo in league history. This was right between the Price/Nance/Dougherty era and the Kemp era, when the Cavs had one good player (T. Brandon) and a bunch of scrubs. It was brutal to watch.

Yup, thats what made me think of Fratello. I remember it being a question in NBA Hangtim,e I believe it was about who had the lowest PPG of any team in the league during a season of that time period and I said "Duh, Cleveland".

Look at the teams that are on the lower end of the PPG column and you'll see three that have more points than their opponents but still are some of the lowest in the league. Houston (Van Gundy), Memphis (Fratello/Hubie), and Detroit.
