Why is tripping over someone's foot during a crossover such a laughable thing?
Almost every crossover where the defender falls over, their feet collide, the defender is tripped. Highlights and news outlets make it look like the defender is a clumsy fool and was just schooled out of his shoes.

Re: Why is tripping over someone's foot during a crossover such a laughable thing?
Popular basketball culture loves ankle breakers. A large portion of popular basketball culture also loves an excuse to get hyped. These two notions collide when a defender is tripped or stepped on; the hype crowd just wants something to get wild about and they can't be bothered by the details.
Also, the trips and collisions are sometimes tough to pick up in real time, so it can look like a legit ankle breaker upon first glance even if it's not. That's enough for some people. -

You know ankle breakers and dunks can be fun to watch when they happen, but neither have ever bothered me.. If you're playing good competition you're going to get your ankles broken, going to get dunked on, it happens.Comment
