And man, I didn't notice the one family had 3 on board, that's horrible.

Maybe even on the helicopter everything was far too sudden.

I still can't find the right words to say things in a clearheaded, organized manner. Everything just pours out as I think about it, and I have to hold back some of those other things because I need to bottle some emotions. And I realize there are other aerial vehicle crashes that occur quite often, but this is small and connected just enough for me by that thread that is Kobe and Gigi that I'm feeling this undue amount of sadness toward it.

Reality may keep sinking in, but I'm still far away from actual "this is real life" kind of acceptance.
I was pumping gas this morning and the video screen on the pump had like a 15 second in memoriam for Kobe and the victims. Even if you want to escape you can't.

I know we all take life for granted all the time, but reminders like this tragic event just cut you off at the legs and leave you confused, angry, depressed, and frustrated.

        All these videos, tributes, interviews..

Just way too much. I'm better than I was on Sunday. I was a ****ing mess smh

But man, seeing Tracy McGrady break down, seeing the woman talk about Kobe being a "girl-dad". This is all just too much. Didn't think I'd ever be this emotional about a celebrity's death. I've realized the only reason I feel this way is because he just died too soon. She died too soon. They all died too soon.

I found that comment odd because I feel like there have been multiple instances since there where they have, or at least that's how the media made it look. I thought they even had a televised sit down AFTER his retirement, and I know they have interacted on twitter and stuff.. Maybe Shaq meant the last time he spoke to him that wasn't social media/text messages or interview related material. I know not that long ago they were both going back and forth on Dwight punchlines as well.

This made me laugh. Lord knows I needed it with this tragedy still messing me all up thinking about it so much the last couple days.

Humor is my favorite coping mechanism, once you can stomach it. Getting to the funny stories and things like Mack posted--celebrating the recently deceased--is a healthy and important part of the grieving process.

One of my closest friends lost his younger brother to cancer this past Christmas Day. Only 35 years old, with an 11-month-old son, on the most family-oriented holiday of the year. The type of stuff you fear above all else. Tragic in every sense of the word. His memorial service was a brutal ordeal but the reception afterward was a unique experience for me: his brother was a such a "life of the party" guy and so many people had crazy stories about him that the group spent most of the afternoon laughing, with the occasional tears mixed in. It is the only memorial service I've ever been to where by the end of it my face was hurting from laughing. I think it's exactly what his brother would have wanted.

Re: Kobe Bryant, daughter Gianna, and several others die in helicopter crash

It wasn't until kobe's untimely passing on Sunday did I realize the magnitude of his popularity. I mean, I knew that he was incredibly famous, but his passing really put things into perspective. This is the reaction that I would have anticipated Jordan getting had it been him (no disrespect and i'm not wishing death on anyone), but Kobe? I always thought that he was nationally known, but I haven't seen such a response this strongly since Michael Jackson. I think professional athletes are viewed almost on a different level than other fields of entertainment, so maybe that has something to do with it.

People all around the world paying tribute to him, celebrities who I never thought even had a relationship with him shared their thoughts (smokey robinson and him were friends? what??) Congress even stopped to address his passing along with others who perished in that horrific accident. Seriously what other celebrity could command such attention?

I share a lot of the same sentiments as many of you. I thought Kobe would ease into the sunset of his life gracefully after retirement and grow old like may of the greats. So many lives destroyed as a result of this unfortunate tragedy, so many families torn apart and now they have to live without these people who played such a pivotal role in their lives. Life doesn't apologize and time evaporates quickly. One minute your walking on concrete, and the next, your buried in quicksand.

Without word, circumstances can drastically change, so never be afraid to live the life you want and always live with purpose and urgency. Go out and do the things you've always wanted to do, set goals for yourself. Thats what made Kobe so great, he was not only a professional athlete, but he was a professional at taking advantage of what life had to offer.

I pray that he and the others onboard are at peace and that the families of the victims can one day recover, but it's just so hard to see a group of people vanish from the face of the earth within a blink of an eye. I hope that everybody who has been affected by these events can find the strength to carry on. Remember stop and take a minute to truly be present in the lives of those who could use some attention, don't take the present for granted and truly live. None of us will be here one day, but we are here now, so lets make the most of it.

one of the things I heard this week that made me smile was Rachel Nichols telling the story of Kobe's last game. someone told Kobe to go out and score 50, cant recall who, Rachel said after the game, whoever it was that told him to get 50 said ‘‘I told him to get 50. that mother effer got 60!’’. it was priceless hearing Nichols say that.

Interesting comments from Jerry West reflecting on Kobe. He talked Kobe out of joining the Clippers in the mid 00s. Kobe AND Shaq gone from the Lakers, what would've happened there?

And Clippers with Kobe? Maggette,Brand,Kobe. That would've been interesting.

I “understand” the reason the team has to do media, but I really wish they didn’t. Someone asked Vogel how he felt as a father of daughters when he heard the news...the **** kinda question is that?

Well, I was starting to feel a lot better about things and then I saw that Vanessa Bryant finally spoke for the first time about the tragedy and I'm all broken up again.

My girls and I want to thank the millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time. Thank you for all the prayers. We definitely need them. We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my adoring husband, Kobe — the amazing father of our children; and my beautiful, sweet Gianna — a loving, thoughtful, and wonderful daughter, and amazing sister to Natalia, Bianka, and Capri.
We are also devastated for the families who lost their loved ones on Sunday, and we share in their grief intimately.
There aren’t enough words to describe our pain right now. I take comfort in knowing that Kobe and Gigi both knew that they were so deeply loved. We were so incredibly blessed to have them in our lives. I wish they were here with us forever. They were our beautiful blessings taken from us too soon.
I’m not sure what our lives hold beyond today, and it’s impossible to imagine life without them. But we wake up each day, trying to keep pushing because Kobe, and our baby girl, Gigi, are shining on us to light the way. Our love for them is endless — and that’s to say, immeasurable. I just wish I could hug them, kiss them and bless them. Have them here with us, forever.
Thank you for sharing your joy, your grief and your support with us. We ask that you grant us the respect and privacy we will need to navigate this new reality.
To honor our Team Mamba family, the Mamba Sports Foundation has set up the MambaOnThree Fund to help support the other families affected by this tragedy. To donate, please go to MambaOnThree.org.
To further Kobe and Gianna’s legacy in youth sports, please visit MambaSportsFoundation.org.

Thank you so much for lifting us up in your prayers, and for loving Kobe, Gigi, Natalia, Bianka, Capri and me. #Mamba #Mambacita #GirlsDad #DaddysGirls #Family ❤️

That story made me think of my uncle funeral 5 years ago. It was a typical Irish funeral with a lot of drinking at the wake after the service.

After an entire afternoon of drinking with a big family full of zingers and telling stories; my brother and I go to leave and my brother almost thanked my cousins for the funeral invite.

WE WERE BOTH PALLBEARERS so we weren’t just some random people there 😂. I still give him crap for that one.
