    The Live 2003 Freestyle Primer

Hi, I'm EG. I'm a 20-year-old college student who has been playing the Live series since 95. Anyway, I've been posting at the nba-live.com boards for a few years and I've decided to start posting here. Here's an updated version of the Freestyle guide that I posted over there.

    FACE-UP TRIPLE THREAT

Switch to post-up position: Tap up
    Fake to left: Tap left
    Fake to right: Tap right
Palm ball away from defender: Hold Down
Hold ball between legs: Hold diagonal up-left OR diagonal up-right
Circle ball down across legs: Roll right to up OR left to up
Circle ball down and hold in front of legs: Roll right to up OR left to up and hold.
Step back and hold ball down: Roll left to down and hold
Step in and hold ball up: Roll right to down and hold

    Step-back and dribble: Tap down

(You can drive out of most any of these positions by using the left stick)

    POST-UP POSITION

Switch to face-up position: Tap up
Protect ball overhead (hold with two hands): Hold up
Palm ball out away from defender (hold with one hand)r: Hold down
Turn to left shoulder: Hold right
Turn to right shoulder: Hold left

(You can drive out of most of these positions by holding the left analog stick. Except for the two hand hold, for some reason you cannot drive out of it.)

STANDING DRIBBLING (assuming ball is in right hand)

    Fake drive: Tap up
    Cradle: Tap right
    Step back: Tap down

    Dribble between legs: Tap left
(By immediately tapping in the other direction you can do this again the other direction)
Dribble between legs to left hand cradle: Hold left
Cradle to dribble between legs to left hand cradle: Tap right, hold left

Normal crossover: Roll up to left
Cradle to normal crossover: Roll right to up to left
Cradle to normal crossover to left hand cradle: Roll right to up to left and hold

Behind-the-back dribble: Roll down to left
Behind-the-back to left hand dribble: Roll down to left (this can also be repeated by rolling the opposite direction immediately)
Behind-the-back to left hand cradle: Roll down to left and hold
Cradle to behind-the-back to left hand dribble: Roll right to down to left
Cradle to behind-the-back to left hand cradle: Roll right to down to left and hold

RUNNING DRIBBLING (Assuming ball is in right hand)

    Normal Spin: Tap up
    Cradle to Spin: Hold up
Same-hand tight spin: Roll up to right
(Note: This move can only be performed by certain players, I'm not sure what determines it but for the most part it seems like the Dribbling Rating has to be in the 90's and quickness has to be high)

    Step back: Tap down

    Cradle ball: Right
Cradle to fake crossover: Tap right, right

Normal crossover: Roll up to left
Cradle to normal crossover: Roll right to up to left

    Between-the-legs crossover: Left
Cradle to between the legs crossover: Tap right, left

Behind-the-back crossover: Roll down to left
Cradle to behind-the-back crossover: Roll right to down to left

I think that's everything...if anybody notices anything else just say so. Especially any player-specific special moves as I have yet to find any.

    EG

EDIT - Changed the note about the tight spin and added an additional spin move that was mentioned below by BlueDevilsFan, thanks.

      Nice Post!

One more spin move you missed. With any players, if you tap up you get the standard spin but if you hold up you get a long, high-wrap spin. Careful with this move though, it is pretty easy for the D to step up and take a charge, especially in multi-player because it is kind of telegraphed.

I have also noticed that the cradle moves (and the crosses that link to them) are different for the same Players that can do the tight spin where you leave the ball out to the side.

It is a much more dynamic motion that has more sideways movement to help you get around the D.

I noticed that after you mentioned that. It's a great way to differentiate guys' dribbling. I like that Darius Miles can bring the ball up and cross someone over but guys like Iverson can fly up the court and do a quick, nasty, big crossover.

Overall they made the dribbling and quickness ratings matter this year. I noticed because when drafting in franchise mode I found myself looking for players who had great dribbling in their scouting report and didn't even notice it. I thought to myself "Cool, I never did that before."

Let's hope everyone who would find this useful notices this thread also.

                thx again EG...

I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

You should submit a complete Freestyle guide to gamefaqs.com.

More people go there to look for this kind of info.
