NBA 2K3 if you like sim style basketball and want a deep franchise mode. If you want arcadey ball, get LiveComment

If you want to be able to score quickly and easily without much effort or learning, then choose Live. If you want a deep game that pushes you to learn more to continuously be successful, both against other players and the AI then choose NBA2K3.Comment

I haven't played NBA 2k3 yet but Live is basically just fun multiplayer action with the free style. It's too much isolation, taking a player to the rack time and again by using the right analog stick.Comment

Re: Which Game do u prefer for this year?
Once again...sigh...play Live on superstar level and tell me how arcadey it is. 2K3 is NOT as much of a sim as everyone likes to think it is. Just rent both and make up your own mind. I've played both, they're both great, and they BOTH have "arcadey" elements to them. How much of a sim can 2K3 be when it doesn't even have real plays in the playbook? Every play is a one pass isolation play or post up (except for high post). The "screens" set in these plays aren't traditional solid screens. And out of this play you're supposed to do what...use the crossover button to get to the whole, or use the jab step, THEN crossover button to get to the hole. How is this more of a simulation than Live? In Live, I can run motion plays that actually set baseline screens to free up my shooters. Let's just stop this MYTH about one being a sim and the other being arcadey. They are both arcade games, and from the views of this forum, it seems that Live is more enjoyable. But do what you like, man...Comment

Re: Which Game do u prefer for this year?
Again, great Post Silky.
Here's a thought: Rather than one game being a SIM and the other an ARCADE game, it's more like this:
2K3 is a perfect Simulation of 90% of a typical NBA game.
LIVE is a perfect Simulation of the other 10% of a typical NBA game.
The difference? Live is the 10% of the game that brings the fans out of their seats, that leaves the announcers breathless and that makes the ESPN highlight reel at the end of the night. 2K3 is the 90% of the game where you are checking out the cheerleaders, getting a beer and some popcorn, or yukking it up with your buddies while half-assed paying attention. Even the dunks in 2K3 are boring.
Nothing happens in Live that doesn't happen in the NBA. There are no flaming balls, no guys jumping over the rim, no lightning bolts or dancing squirrels. They have just managed to capture the essence of the most exciting stretch of ball you will see in a given NBA game and made it so that that is the norm rather than the extraordinary.
Is that realistic? I think stretches of the Mavs-Kings series was like that at times this year but overall I would have to say NO, that is not realistic. But damn it would be great if it were, wouldn't it?Comment

Re: Which Game do u prefer for this year?
It seems to me that there are still 2K fans out there calling Live an arcade game when the point has been made MANY TIMES that Live is deep and not just an arcade game. When the NBA season comes around, I think that people will notice how the games in Live are similar to the NBA's style of play. Besides, its fun + realistic (maybe not players dribbling around doin nuthin or goin at a snail's pace, but still realistic). And yes, I do prefer Live 2003 over 2K3.Comment

Re: Which Game do u prefer for this year?
I agree. I have both NBA2K3 and Live 2003 for X-Box. What seperate the games for me is the basketball atmosphere created in Live. The flow of the game along with the animation and control add to a realistic style of basketball game. 2K3 player movement is too stiff to establish a realistic feel to the game (IMO). Both have strong and weak points in gameplay, graphics and options. Boils down to what you look for in a game. The good news is you can't go wrong with either game. The both are fun.Comment
