Honestly, if he gets into the starting lineup he has a legit shot at ROY.

Might have a shot regardless if he keeps this up.

So happy to see this. He played as a 3 at Kentucky despite being a PG and never complained and worked his *** off becoming a good defender and an elite shooter. I was surprised that he went in the first round because he seemed like a 3&D type role player, but it looks like that's his floor as of now.

Not sure what his ceiling actually is but it’s clear that Ball is more comfortable than a lot of rookies are coming into the league. Similar to Luka, you can just tell guys like that spent a lot of time against higher level competition before hitting the NBA.

There's a pretty decent chance he never becomes the shooter that some scouts expect him to be and never becomes the defender that he has the tools and instincts to be, and if both of those things occur, he's likely an empty stats guy (i.e. putting up numbers but being a net-negative player).

But I think he had the most natural talent in the draft, I think he's a great fit in a ball-movement based system like the Warriors have despite the potential shooting woes, and for a team like Charlotte, he was a no-brainer of a pick because at minimum he's going to be a very entertaining player.

Re: scouts thinking he can develop his shooting, I remember ESPN's scouts (DraftExpress + Kevin Pelton) put out scouting reports with attributes and everything for all the prospects and they had LaMelo listed as an average shooter in the NBA from Day 1 with the potential to be one of the best shooters in the league, so yeah, some scouts think he has a lot of potential there. I do tend to think he has natural shooting touch already but the mechanics are a mess; not a mess like Lonzo's where it makes it impossible for him to shoot off the dribble, but a mess where it makes it a lot more difficult to shoot with consistency. They basically believe his ceiling is to be the best passer in the NBA while also being one of the best shooters and ball-handlers.
I feel like I was really high on LaMelo and he's still been better than I expected so far. We'll see if the shooting and active defense lasts, but he seems to be in the driver's seat for ROY so far.

You just need to play defense long enough until your offensive game reaches such a level that you can dial the defense back down again.

All Lamelo has to do is not be a negative on defense.

Of the seven rookies averaging double-figures in scoring, Quickley is the only one playing under 20 mpg. He is the only perimeter player of the group playing fewer than 27 mpg. Only Wiseman is a bit lower at 21 mpg, largely due to foul trouble and matchups. Quite frustrating as a Knicks fan.

More points than Haliburton at 200 less minutes played while playing behind a bum with virtually no minutes at SG with his outside shooting ability.

Thibs rode Derrick Rose into the ground but now he’s put the clamps on Quickley. Makes no sense.

He is shooting pretty bad overall, I've only caught partial Knicks games outside of maybe 1 or 2 full games, does he have issue finishing or with shot selection? Seems like he's good from 3 and the FT line, so what's keeping his overall % low? Because I could see Thibs playing him less minutes for hope to get him to improve his shot selection/decision making. A Thibs team predictably has solid defensive numbers but are dead last in pace, which will skew those numbers. He might not be too fond how early in the clock Quickley take a shot, he is the Knicks leading shot taker per 36.

He had a stretch of bad shooting games. Seemed to be typical rookie stuff.

He definitely has a green light. But I’d attribute it more to trying to force things because when he comes into games we are already in a hole because there is no fluidity from the first unit.

His numbers should improve being able to slide over to SG with the second unit having Rose at PG.

LaMelo is cooking his last six games.

While I’ve seen LaMelo stat-padding at the end of games, I can’t deny his consistency on outside shots. I was wrong about that.

Same, I saw his shooting splits the other day and was surprised at how good they are. On the season he's at 45/38/80 which is super impressive for someone who's had his shot criticized since puberty.

This is why I didn’t like everyone trying to change Lonzo’s shot. Still feel like it set him back a few years, he just now starting to look halfway confident in his shot again. And ugly or not make/miss he never lacked confidence until they started messing with his form.
