Joe D = Hall of Famer?

It won't be announced until April 4th, but Joe Dumars is among the finalists for the NBA Hall of Fame along with other notables like Dominique Wilkens and Bernard King.

Does Joe D have the resume for the Hall of Fame?

Here are some bulletpoints about his life in BBall:

•He has two NBA championship rings as a player and was the NBA Finals MVP in 1989.

    •He was on the all-defensive first or second team in 1988-89, 1989-90, 1990-91, 1991-92 and 1992-93.

•As the Pistons' president of basketball operations, he already has an NBA title and an executive of the year award on his resume.

•When he left McNeese State he was one of the NCAA's all-time leading scorers.

•The NBA's sportsmanship award is named after him.

Is that enough? Or did he play 2nd banana to Zeke for too long?

I, personally, think he is in. I think 'Nique and King deserve serious consideration as well.

    Thoughts?

Definitely deserves to get in. Wilkins and King deserve to get in too. They never won a ring but you can't deny their accomplishments.

His achievements as an executive won't have any bearing on his being elected into the HOF, however I think he was a very good solid defensive player for a long time. He was one of the stabilizing forces of those "Bad Boys" Pistons teams. I think he'll get in sooner rather than later.

I also think 'nique will get in too.

Not necessarily true. You have to remember that this is the Basketball Hall of Fame...not the NBA Hall of Fame. Your chosen based on your contributions to Basketball in all phases of your career.

I didn't know they take everything into account. I do know that it's a general HOF tho. Since every aspect of his career is taken into account then yep he should get elected this year.

I believe Joe D will get in including his record as GM of the Pistons. He was so intrumental in those championship years.. and was the toughest guy to defend MJ.

Wilkins is a stone cold lock. However, I think Dumars will need a few more years of success as an executive to get it. His teams will need at least one, maybe even two more championships in order for him to make it.

See... I think Joe D's playing career is enough to stand on its own. Joe D was one of the last old school 2's in the league. No dunks - No slashing - No high flying. Just a killer midrange game - Great longball - Clutch - Tenascious D - Big enough to back down a lot of opponents - Passing - Quick hands. Way overshadowed by his team, but was probably the main reason the Pistons won those back to back titles.
