      Re: dunk contest

Im not sure who gets to get in the dunk contests every year. Is it by invite from the NBA or what? I was just wondering because if thats the case and the NBA can chose who they want to extend invitations to for the 3 point shootout then they should be picky about who gets in the dunk contest as well. As much as i LOVE Amarie..hes too tall for it. I think 6-9 should be the cutoff point. Josh Smith was SICK this year and part of it has to do wtih visually how well he looked going in the air in ADDITION to the dunks itself. When you get someone 6-10 and taller in it, they just dont look as good I dont care what they do. Imagine of Josh Smith pulled of that same "ball off Nash's head" dunk. It would have looked 10 times better because Smith is 6-6. When he leaves the ground there is more seperation between him and the floor, thus the illustion of flight takes place. With Amari and other 6-10 and 6-11 dunkers even though they hit the rim with power, its just not as pretty. Its not thier fault but I think this is why for the mostpart dunk contests are becoming ho-hum. Sure part of that has to do with all the dunks we have allready seen. But being 6-10 and pulling off dunks we have allready seen is worse than someone say 6-5 or 6-6 doing it.

Dont get me wrong the contest was good this year and Amari did pull of some cool stuff but still..being that tall cheapens the visual appeal of it. I have been a serious studier of dunk contests ever since back in the Jordan days. If you watch Mike when he was in the competitions, he looked like he was really defying gravity. not only was he nailing his dunks but he moved his body through the air in a way that make it look really cool. Josh Smith did this as well. He even had a little bit of a MJ "lean" to some of his dunks. Its just my opinion but if I want to stage the next NBA dunk contest..and I can choose who I want in it..you wont see no big men. No 6-10, 6-11, 7 footers. Thats just my opinion... look at this boy (i stole from another post)..

hes like 6-5. Look at the way he looks like hes flying through the air on TOP of actually finishing off the dunk. If someone 6-10 or taller pulled off all of those dunks in that clip Im sorry to say they wouldnt have the same crowd pleasing effect.

              Re: dunk contest

but he's still not some super tall big dude trying to fly in the air. Most people in the NBA can dunk a ball. Very few people can actually fly through the air though. There IS a difference. Josh's dunks looked cooler cuz the shorter you are the more of a vertical leap you need. Imagine Shaq on his tippie toes dunking in a dunk contest. We would fall asleep.

Maybe because they are on the same team. Why would chris anderson use kenyon martin?

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

He sorta got jobbed last year due to the head to head format.

Overall good dunk contest but I wished they go back to the 5-dunk off finals.

Why is that funny. Hes top ten all time in scoring, but got snubbed from the top 50 list and only gets mentioned during the dunk contests... hilarious.
