The Mavs just lost Center Erick Dampier for 2-3 weeks with a stress fracture in his foot. Dampier was really starting to come on after finally settling down in the Mavs lineup averaging 13-ppg, 13-rpg and 2.0-bpg over his last 14 games. He had finally given the Mavs a legitimate big man and now he's out 2-3 weeks.
I think that this injury could allow the Rockets to surge past Dallas for the 4th seed during that span. The Kings and Grizzs aren't too far off either but Houston is playing the more consistent ball right now and this could be a huge blow for the Mavs. I was so happy to read that Mark Stein had finally moved Dallas up to 2nd overall in his power rankings this week pointing out that the Mavs have yet to have a full healthy roster.....then I saw this injury and immediately turned to see if the Rockets had won or lost tonight. Good thing they lost but I have a feeling that Houston is now in prime posistion to move ahead of the Mavs.
