AD’s defense at the end of this game is awful. Keeps getting stuck in between hedge/help/recover and is just completely in no mans land. No contesting jumpers or preventing the Poeltl mismatch.

Because he gave up just as many to an average rotational player lol. He had a solid offensive game, but was way off at the other end, at least late in the game. Honestly though dude just doesn’t like playing the 5 and kinda shows that on both ends. Avoids inside game on offense, flourishing on defense when he’s got another big behind him too. I think that helps Giannis a lot on that end as well so it’s not like it’s uncommon.
I will say having guys like Russ, Monk, Reaves, Melo, Bazemore who can all attack the rim opens up lots of dives and offensive boards for AD. It’s like having 3 or 4 Caruso’s on the floor in that sense. A lot of misses from those guys were cleaned up by him.Comment

So much of it seems to stem from jumper happiness. It’s like the championship run was almost a curse. He was on a nice streak with his shot and it led them to a title with him being the best player on the floor in a good chunk of games.. but ever since then that’s been way too big of a chunk of his game. Not sure what his shot distribution would actually look like, but it feels like large parts of what made them so successful in the regular season that year aren’t as prevalent now. I remember to start that season they pretty much isolated him inside too much, now he’s a guard, there was a happy medium for a bit. Feels lost now.
