    Re: NBA Draft 2022

Manek has always been a super efficient scorer (just a tad under 60/40 splits on his career) but on this recent hot streak UNC has been on he’s been doing it with a lot more volume. Last games he’s over 21 a night on 63% and 44% from. At a listed 6’9 230lbs with some guard skills and decent athleticism he could be a sleeper pick considering I think he’s a mid-late 2nd rounder in most mocks.. he’s basically an athletic Joe Ingles or Brandon Ingram without the iso game, etc..

I realize his lack of quickness defensively likely leaves him in that Duncan Robinson, Davis Bertans type of “power forward that plays like a shooting guard” role, but to me he’s got a lot more upside than either of them given his other skills. Former Tarhell Cam Johnson feels like a pretty spot on comparison to me in terms of his ability mixed with projected NBA role.

I'm not crazy about him. Late first round-early second round for me

I kind of agree Pabolo is number one currently. Chet in my opinion is still number one. I think it will be about who gets number 1 pick at the end of the day. You can't go wrong with any of the 3.

I'm not crazy about the straight jumper. But I see why everyone loves him

I mean that’s what I’m saying too, my point was more so that if he’s sliding to the late 2nd round and you can get late first production from him he could be somewhat of a sleeper. Definitely not saying I’d take him early lol

I'm biased as a Carolina fan, but as like the 9th guy on winning team I feel like he can be a solid contributor in the league, Somewhere between 30-45 should be where he goes.

I’m probably dead wrong but I don’t like Banchero’s game. He always seems to be moving in slow motion to me. Haven’t watched him a ton but Jabari is the clear #1 for me.

I’m not a fan of Banchero nor Chet as far as translating their games to a pro level. Chet will have more success earlier on because he can do so many things. I just don’t see him holding up health-wise.

Give me Ivey, Davis or Ben.

Yeah idk how to project any of these guys honestly, nobody really blows me away. Paolo does seem to move at his own pace, a bit like Jabari and RJ did but maybe even a tad slower. He’s far more dynamic than say Kyle Anderson though, and not that slow in comparison. It’s tough because a lot of guys who play at their own pace and you can’t really speed up or rush have had tons of success in the past few drafts. LaMelo is a bit that way, Giddey, SGA, Cade, a few more I’m probably not naming. And with all his tools you’ve got to think of guys like Paul Pierce, or even how RJ has developed recently too. He’s an interesting prospect but idk that he feels like a lock top pick.

Ivey is tough because I was really high on him as well, but over the past decade or so I don’t think I’ve seen any top 10 projected pick have a game as bad as the one he just played. He doesn’t seem to have the guard skills to play that combo role, like he’s not going to be a CJ, Donovan, level player for awhile, he doesn’t have the off ball movement or shooting of a Seth Curry, and he doesn’t seem to have an NBA level first step with the ball in his hands.. it’s a weird mix, he’s obviously super talented but right now feels like a guy you really wish was 4-5 inches taller so he could play more of a small forward role. I’ve saw comps of guys like Anthony Edwards, Donovan Mitchell, D-Wade, and maybe he has that type of explosiveness with an opening but it doesn’t feel like he has that type of first step speed while dribbling. There was nobody on Saint Peter’s that defended him that he was able to beat off the dribble last game, and their defensive pressure had him repeatedly dribbling the ball of his own legs too.. I might be putting way too much stock into just 1 game but I’d have some decent sized reservations on him being able to do better against NBA speed and length until he’s been in the league for a bit.

Smith could be special as a scorer. He kinda has that Rashard Lewis game. Think he’s got to develop a lot as an iso guy or become a true stretch 4 type of player. Needs to get to the rim more. My only real issue with him was he just seemed to shy away from the moment too often. Like hit two huge shots back to back in a close game and then just not even try to get the ball the next couple of trips up. He’s just a freshman, but you would have liked to see him show more assertiveness at times like a Melo or KD would have. His jumper is good, midrange is good, but the rest of his offensive game is a bit shallow IMO. He’s probably the safest pick because even if he never realizes his potential he could be a starter just as a stretch 4 guy who can do lots of other things.. like Cam Johnson who’s better in the open court might be a worst case scenario for him.

Yeah Ivey was always that guy I thought could end up as the “best pick” because even though he’s likely a top 5 pick he was a guy who might slide to 7th or 8th but be the best player in the draft and just be a massive value/reward pick. But that last game just scared me man lol. Like NBA pace and space could help a guy like him a ton, but also literally every defender thrown at him will be faster, stronger, longer than what I just watched him struggle mightily against. I think he’ll be fine, but I don’t feel confident being a team that takes him at 2 or 3 anymore either.

I don’t think Ivey was THAT bad. There’s certainly been worse performances in the past for relatively good prospects. I think a lot of the issues were coaching. Painter made their priority on offense getting the ball inside to their big men when it was apparent almost immediately that the bigs were not up to the task. But for whatever reason, they kept going back to that well over and over again.

I think Ivey still showed the elite first step and speed that he’s known for and the passes he’s able to make at full speed on his drives were still really impressive. The issue for him is the same issue I have with Jabari: his handle. With Ivey, you pretty much know he’s coming back to his right hand. His left just isn’t very good right now, and you saw a glimpse of that when he just randomly dribbled out of bounds on the baseline with his left hand.

With Jabari, he just struggles to handle the ball period. That might end up causing him to be a disappointment in the pros, but having said that, Paul George was a guy that really struggled to create for himself in college and he eventually figured it out in the NBA. I wouldn’t count on that happening with Jabari, but I think the shot making at his size and the chance of further development is worth the risk in this draft class.
