That's a blocking foul at best! That's a terrible call. Ball never left his feet.

    Challenge and over turn.

Gafford is such a solid big.. still can’t believe they didn’t make it work in Chicago.

This is easily noticed by the “eye test” as well.. watching the Lakers repeatedly give him the iso on every mismatch only to see him shoot a step back fader over 6’3 guards is just maddening as a basketball fan.

Two seasons ago he looked like a player poised to challenge for best player in the league honors. This version of him that exists now and most of last season as well doesn’t even look like a top 10 player.

The thing is, does someone at least tries to let him about those stats? In baseball (at in least in the most analytically inclined teams) this information would get to the player so he can incorporate it and modify his play. My sense is we are not there yet in the NBA save for some exceptions (and this isn't exactly sabermatrics or even advance stats, just common sense stats ) and I'm not sure if players would be receptive (not right away anyway).

Who's going to tell AD "you are not shooting any more 3's, period"? Should be the coach, no? The scheme should be conductive to no 3's by AD and lots of post touches. But a lot of what the Lakers do in the court is freelancing.

And yet I'm looking at the stats and the Lakers lead the NBA in Post Touches Points and Paint Touches Points which of course is function of their personnel (LeBron, AD, Westbrook etc). 21st in 3PA.

I think Spo said it years ago with that 2012 Heat team. You can't use every single data point with players. You have to find your spots of when to use it. You never want your players to be thinking too much. But in that case it was Wade and LeBron posting up that really produced some crazy numbers. So I think Spo said at first if you have to rebound you can do whatever you want on offense. But if you have to take it out of bounds you have to run a play.

Basically Frank has got to find raw film or other ways to talk to AD about this problem. Because AD himself is just reading the defense. You want AD keeping the defense honest.

By the way, Thanks for all of the above!

                      And one last to compare.

                      AD 2019-2020:

                      2020-2021:

                      Spoiler

We could expect some regression to the mean in some areas and he does seem to have an ability to hit 3's from the left corner, but he shouldn't be shooting 3's from anywhere else [maybe from the top?] (unless data on wide open 3's from specific zones said otherwise, that is precisely the job a team's analytics department should be doing and feeding its coaches & players; the Lakers are the premier franchise in basketball, I would think they have at least 1 guy crunching the numbers).
