This is my problem with these studies. None of these people play basketball day in and day out. They sit at a computer and try to quantify basketball/sports in numbers.

Suns are probably going to give up this small lead, and do the job. Barkley had a great point at the half where he said they should have more points in the paint than they did.

Also, Allie is quite a fine specimen. She might be one of the few that could take the place of Doris for me.

For me, I know a lot of the more difficult pronunciations from simply playing the NBA video games through the years.

I think anyone can get a hot hand. Even a marginal player.

But not everyone can be clutch. Clutch requires a fearlessness and calmness and huevos..lol. A lot of people want no part of that ball when the pressure is on. Takes a special mentality.

I mean I agree that you don’t want a player that routinely just can’t function under pressure (Ben Simmons maybe) I just don’t think the players completely lacking in that are in large abundance at the NBA level. I think you need that “mentality” in HS, college, I just believe most pros have it. Some players are just better at getting off tough shots, making tough shots, but I truly don’t believe there to be a huge mentality gap at the pro level.. that said some do stand out obviously, I just don’t think it’s takes a “special” guy in regards to their mentality for the most part. It takes a special guy more so in regards to can they create their own shot or not. If they can’t then by default they have a harder time looking “clutch” by the way we define clutch.

But I mean more so the idea of “clutch” in general, not necessarily players who fold under pressure. A “clutch” shot is worth 2/3 points all the same as the first shot of the game it worth 2/3 points. Neither is any more important in regards to the final score than the other. You make enough correct plays throughout the game and there is no “clutch” to even be had. You can’t get a stop as a team well then the shot doesn’t matter anyways. Im not saying every shot is simply the exact same and we should view a clutch play the same as every other player, I’m just saying the gap at which we separate them is substantially smaller than we make it out to be.. IMO.

Plus the way we quantify it is just often so bizarre. Kobe as an example might shoot like 20% on these falling away, contested, after 14 head fake shots late in games but he makes it enough times that you can compile a highlight reel out of them and all of sudden you have “the most clutch” when in reality it’s routinely just taking really bad tough shots. And often times you hit a “clutch” shot or even game winner fine, but the game came down to that play because you missed the last 6 hero ball shots you threw up before that but we call that clutch?. When statistically even on the awful Smush Parker squads a pass to a wide open Smush was a better shot than a fall away over a double team.

People in their heads automatically define clutch as these shots that look cool, look tough, in reality they are no more clutch than making a timely back cut, getting open for a game winning kick out, but we just automatically define what it is based on what makes a better highlight no matter how often it or the other plays actually fail/succeed.
