That’s pretty much how it plays out for any of these guys. CP3 or Book are the only two guys who separated themselves enough record wise to make that argument. Maybe throw Ja in there be he’s like 9-10 on the list overall. That’s why I was saying had Giannis or Embiid been a 60+ win team like that they would have ran away with it this year. All 3 of those teams being 10+ wins away from Phoenix is pretty much why we are are we are between the 3 of them.

And to your point it does look odd because you’ve got a 6 seed when it could be a 3 seed, but then you’re coming down to basing the MVP vote on playoff seed which already seems sillier than solely basing it on record.

Idk how to feel about it honestly [emoji23].. I’m just glad they aren’t giving to Book by default when the 3 of these guys have clearly been better/more valuable than him all year. Hell before CP3 went down he was ahead of Book because everyone recognizes him as their “most important” piece. He goes down and here come all the Book talk. I’m glad voters didn’t cave to that.

The other 3 ultimately it doesn’t matter who wins. Voters gonna pick a winner every year but you’ve got 3 guys who played good enough to take the award against even the some of best of the best. They had special seasons that stack up with some of the best we’ve had.

Kinda surprised Ime Udoka didn’t receive any coach of the year votes and Willie Green did. Wonder if a sub 40 win coach has ever revived votes for coach of the year.

Congrats to Monty Williams, thought any of he, Jenkins, Udoka, and maybe Lue given their injuries had a shot at winning.

He's been playing amazing defense for a minute.

Smart has been a problem on that end for a minute now, but there is a reason guards don't typically win. Bigs effect everything on the court, control most of the defensive boards, are the last line of defense for their team defense, add to that a guy like Giannis who does that but also switches most positions.. It's hard for me to pick anybody over him or Gobert this season. Look at Utah's defense in those games Gobert missed.. I'm happy Smart is getting recognition he definitely deserves, he should be the guard on the defensive first team, but Robert Williams was their probably their biggest defensive weapon most of this season.

Yea I'd say Smart is a good choice if he does get it. Been a minute since a guard has won anyway, maybe this will quiet down the "DPOY is just best rim protector" crowd that's been yelling for what seems to be the last 10 years

Rudy and especially Dray didn't play enough games, I probably would've leaned Giannis this year but I get it

It's a fake account (and, ya know, obviously...the awards aren't officially being handed out for another couple months right?)

But it does look like Smart will likely win based on the votes that have been reported so far. He has nearly twice as many votes as Mikal Bridges, who is the #2 guy.

Yeah Draymond was a strong candidate early but obviously missed half the season. Gobert and Giannis only missed 5 and 4 less games than Smart though.

Gobert really only missed that much? Felt like he was out for a month and a half at one point [emoji23]

Smart also missed 11 games this year. So Rudy might have been out that long I just saw the games played was 66 to 71, 67 for Giannis. I don't think Giannis is even a finalist though.
