There’s just something different about how you feel about a season when your team makes the playoffs vs. not making the playoffs at all.

I’m cool with it as long as we don’t get swept lol. If you make it to the playoffs you gotta at least win one game to talk about.

For sure. Hell, I’m not even a Wizards fan but I was getting kinda excited with their obviously flukey hot start this season and it felt like people around DC were starting to get excited some too.

Yeah winning a chip is important, it's not everything. Plus teams have to be realistic with themselves. When Sixers got Harden, I wasn't expecting a ring. Heck, I was glad they got to the second round. I knew with their lack of depth and the usual disappearing act by Harden, that they weren't going far. So, this season wasn't a failure for the Sixers.

While saying that, I'm not just talking about an annual playoff team that fizzles out. I'm talking about a playoff team with a clear identity/culture. The team that the whole fanbase rallies behind and is known throughout league. Where they might not be a true contender, but you know it's a battle every game. While I'm glad Sixers made the second round the last 3 of 4 years and had a legit chance in each of them to move to the Conference finals, they don't fall into that category I'm talking about. They haven't had a true identity or that culture. They're just going off of nature talent. I want their identity to match that Philly culture of being gritty, blue collar, tough, hustle. They don't have that type of player on the team. So for me, give me TJ McConnell(who the fanbase loved when he was there) and someone like Marcus Morris(who fits the bill and is from Philly). So for me, improving their bench with guys who fit that Philly culture will make them more of a team the fanbase can get behind

I’ll take everything you said except for the guy who was coaching the 7 seconds or less [emoji23]

You guys have arguably the MVP on your team. That gives you something additional to root for as a fan.

I’d rather be the 15 Royals or 08 Celtics than those Suns. Give me the chip. Otherwise, just let us suck. Don’t give me hope.

I don’t know if it’s the font or the shade of yellow but some combination of those is the problem to me.

That's a lot better, but ultimately, I think they should have just stuck with the purple anyways. The purple is dope. The new colors are soulless.

But, the whole "if you don't win a ring, the season is a failure" concept. I get it, if the expectations are that high and/or a team flops in the playoffs. But there's teams that would be happy with being a consistently good fun team for a 3-5 year stretch. You don't think Sacramento wouldn't want to have stretch like the Grit & Grind Grizzlies or We Believe Warriors. Where you're not seen as a title contender, but a good gritty fun playoff team that will be a tough out in a series.
To piggy back off this, I think we've gotten a little out of hand with the player ranking/evaluation thing to the point that it's nauseating having basketball conversations with people. What I mean by that is that too many people have become obsessed with the idea of a superstar player and their team having one and thinking the only way to win is to have a bunch of superstars and damn everything else.

Here in Chicago it's gotten pretty obnoxious to talk hoops amongst the fanbase because what really was a really good/fun season for the Bulls has been turned into so many guys legit hating everything about this team and wanting everybody but DeMar DeRozan gone because the second half of the season went left. This team won 46 games this year and if not for COVID and some of the worst injury luck imaginable would have easily won 50+ after winning 31 games the year prior and 22 games each of the 2 seasons prior to that. But it's turned into a constant state of bitching and moaning about needing a superstar player. It's become lost that there's only a handful of superstars in the league and not every team can just get a superstar player. In the same regard, only one team can win the championship every year and it is next to impossible for one franchise to win every single year so it's not the end of the world and everybody sucks and the whole team has to be blown up every time you lose when you have a playoff caliber roster every year.

3 or 4 years ago I saw a guy at a random gas station in western Nebraska rocking a white Boban Clippers jersey, looked in excellent shape. The jersey, not him, he was kinda a pudgy kid

My first jersey ever was a Latrell Sprewell Pacers hand me down lmao

Man the Warriors were such an afterthought as a kid I thought it was a Pacers jersey lol. I was young enough that I couldn't really read it that well. Whole time I thought Spree was a Pacer

Damn way way too young. Didn't really pan out in the NBA. But he was a rock solid big at Purdue. Remember him well.
