I still don't understand the Knicks trades...

The Sacramento trade puzzled me for about 24 hours. Still think it's terrible, but chemistry / turning the team over to Peja + adding decent role players *kind* of has logic. Debatable though.

The Knicks trade just makes no sense at all. None.

You add Rose and Mo T...when you already have Kurt Thomas and Mike Sweetney.

You don't move the latter guys...so now you have FOUR PF's of essentially equal ability. None of them ever going to dominate.

Mo T can shoot the 17 foot jump shot...can't rebound to save his life. Possibly the worst PF rebounder I've ever seen. Plays ZERO D. So, all he gives you is the 17 foot J.

Hang on, Kurt Thomas already specializes in that same J + rebounds + plays D.

So, Mo T is effectively redundant. He adds nothing.

Malik Rose hustles and can play a great game every week or two. Hey, so can Sweetney. Hey, so can Jerome Williams.

Now, you have all five of them...and they share one position. Yeah, I know K Thomas will play some C...but he's on the record as disliking it and isn't very good as a C.

These moves...literally...make no sense at all.

IT was a great player. He was a poor coach. He's an even worse GM.

Or am I just not seeing some great master plan here? The Knicks look stuck for years.

Nope I dont think your missing anything. I think Isiah is obsessed with making trades to shake things up and hoping that sopmehow it all works out in the end and the team meshes... making him look like a genius. His trades are not sensible... but I tink he just wants to make trades that look bad initially... and then after some success will make him look like a genius.

Unfortunately... none of his moves have paid off.. making him look like a chump.

He acquired Penny as a third string SG and he's getting paid something like 12 million. He traded away Van Horn for Tim Thomas who has been a waste of sace and a delightfully surprising Nazr Mohammed. So now his one successful product of a traid is gone for the likes of Malik Rose. Marbury was never the right PG to bring in. He's more like a SG who brings the ball up. He's a a below average defender and is the anti- Jason Kidd in making his teammates better. I honestly think Marbury is the most skilled PG in the league... but he has no leadership and no defense.. which are two important qualities of a star player.

I know having Houston for 20 millio isnt his fault... but he certainily hasn't heped anything since he's gotten here.

Isiah sucks as a GM Bill Simmons was right when he said that the Knicks 10 man rotation has like 5 PFs 3 SFs and 2 SGs. There is absolutley no method to Zeke's madness.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

Isiah is stuck in salary cap hell and since their is no limit to what he can spend he just takes on more salary and simply figures that if some of these guys have a big salary they must have been good one time in their careers so maybe they'll play great for the Knicks. He is the most unprepared GM in the league and is simply living off his playing career. Anybody who hires Wilkins to a multiple year contract obviously wasn't paying attention to what happened when Lenny was with the Raptors but Isiah wanted to be the defacto coach anyways so it didin't matter. Isiah took over the Raptors as an expansion team and left them in a bigger mess than when he started. He will go down as one of the truly horrible GM's of all time and it's laughable if anyone beleives that Jackson or Brown would even consider coaching that franchise while he's there.

I don't follow the Knicks much but their backcourt is solid with these two guy's and Ariza. One guy who could really blow up next year is Michael Sweetney. I think this guy has the ability to be comparable to Zach Randolph. Thats three quality starters with Ariza being a very good swingman off the bench. The draft picks could help down the road but honeslty I think if the Knicks can somehow clear cap space and rid themselves of some of the baggage like Hardaway and Thomas for role players similiar to a guy like Raja Bell they could be a playof team next year in the East.

Crawford at 50 million is beyond a joke. A shoot first guy who plays good once every two weeks for 50 mill.

The key point Knicks fans who I've heard seem to be missing is that Isiah is moving guys whose bad contracts are ending...for worse contracts / similarly poor players.

Ie, "it's just Vin Baker we gave up"...but Vin would be a last season contract soon and those always get attnetion.

Instead, he brings in Mo T who has several years to run and NO ONE will want.

Look what Golden State just did with the expiring contract of Dale Davis...added a franchise type player in Baron Davis.

IT needs to sow some patience and plan long term. It looks now like he's trading just to trade. There's no logic at all to bring in Malik Rose AND Mo T on the same day. None.
