Imo, the Webber trade is gonna kill Philly

I don't know if Philly fans have realized this, but O'brien is ridiculously stubborn when it comes to his system. He will bench talented players for less talented players who can rotate effectively in his defense. As a Celtics fan, I saw this last year when Ainge was retooling our roster and Obie made absolutely zero adjustments, despite saying he would adapt to the personnel and cater to a more uptempo team (which requires more of a man to man defense).

I see no way CWebb is going to be able to play D in Obie's system. Impossible in my opinion. Webber hobbles around the court on one leg and gets abused by mobile PF's, and in Obie's system he is required to run around even when his man isn't. Any time there is a pick and roll, the big men are supposed to go out and trap and then run back to the paint for the rotation. This is going to leave gaping holes all over the court, and I really dont see Obie abondoning his system. I really think he was begging to get Antoine and is unhappy about this trade. We'll see how it plays out, but I don't think this is as good for Philly as everyone is making it out to be.

    The dynasty will return

Yeah, the 76ers will not get better defensively with Chris Webber due to his lack of mobility and athleticism performing on most nights (mainly on the second game of a series of back-to-back games). Plus what people are forgetting to mention about this deal is that the Sixers overall rebounding effort on a game-to-game basis will suffer too. That is because Webber is now reduced to being mainly an area rebounder, and can't cover as wide a range on the floor as he once did in the past while fetching for boards. This Sixers team will be giving up more offensive rebounds to opposing teams than how it was before the deal.

However, I really believe everyone in the Sixers organization knew Webber's deficiencies on D and rebounding before pulling the trigger on the deal, and realizes he brings a huge positive that could likely outweigh all the negatives. The biggest positive regarding Webber is that he make the Sixers much more diverse and tougher to prepare for offensively. And because of that, I do think the team is better overall out of it.

This is just my opinion, but I have a feeling there is a rift between Billy King and OBie (any Sixers fans wanna let me know if there is any legitimacy to that claim?). I think Obie really wanted Antoine, who is more mobile and knows his system, and King got Webber almost in spite of Obie, in the hopes that it would force him to change his defensive scheme.

This could all be ridiculous, but it all depends on what Obie does now imo.

You are correct, there is a rift between King and Obie. In fact, there is a rift between Obie and his players. He really did want Walker and wanted to trade Dalembert in order to get him, but King wanted to keep Dalembert.

Anyway, you are seriously CORRECT about what you said, only thing is at least on offense, it will make the Sixers more formidable with the spacing. You can't just double team AI or C-Webb and so on.

With the defense though, ALL YEAR this team has been very bad. Like you said, Obie does not make adjustments. At all. C-Webb's a defensive liability as is, now it's worse because of Obie's defensive system. It even makes Iguodala, who is a good defensive player as a rookie, look bad.

I've been sick of O'Brien all year. I wanted to give him a chance, but I can't take this crap anymore. Not playing defensei is not good. This team could've been above .500 a long time ago if they played some sort of good defense. Had many leads in games, up by 11....15....and then they would disappear so fast in the late third and fourth quarters. That is exactly what happened last night. Sixers should've won that game. He's turned Sammy Dalembert, a lethal shockblocker and overall very good defensive center last year, into a bench player that can't block anymore. Dalembert should be a starter on this team and getting major minutes, becoming a 13 ppg 10rb 2.5bpg center and improving, but instead he puts in Mark Jackson all the time.

If this trade was King's way of getting Obie to adjust his defense, then I love Billy King. If it doesn't happen, BK's gotta do the right thing and rid of O'Brien.

Another thing, his substitutions are the worst. His rotations make no sense whatsoever. Why does this man love to put in ALL his reserves in at THE SAME TIME? You have Kevin Ollie out there along with Rodney Rogers, Aaron McKie and so on. Obie is his own momentum killer with that strategy. O'Brien is on my nerves. He is absolutely the reason why this team isn't above .500
