Darko is playing behind Ben Wallace, Antonio McDyess and Ben Wallace. The Pistons drafted him knowing he would be a project, but knew he would be able to learn under Ben Wallace, Elden Campbell, and this year Rasheed and McDyess. Had they drafted Carmelo, I doubt many of the gutsy moves the Pistons made to win the title would have not been available.
Sure, you could label Darko as a bust. The same way I could label another 2nd pick, Stromile Swift, as a bust. Darko is in his 2nd season on one of the best teams in the league. He's rapidly improving from last year.
I just think it's interesting that out of 40 HS players drafted, TMac, Lebron, Kobe, KG, Jermaine O'Neal and Amare Stoudemire are currently in the top 15 players in the league right now. TMac, Lebron, Kobe and KG are in the top 10.
Development wise, money wise, and even talent-wise, HS players are making a smart choice entering the league (those that are capable). And teams picking these players are making a smart choice as well. A contributor now can turn into a superstar. It's win-win.

KG, Kobe, Lebron, and T-Mac could've been sent off to Siberia for four years, came back and been NBA all-stars. They are too physically talented, too hardworking, too skilled not to be stars. I think they would've developed just as good in college. Not every kid is that way though.
Really, Brankles, I think we want the same exact thing. Better development of players and a better quality of the NBA. Going to college is the way to go, IMO. That way, all the players coming in have really a good understanding of how to play basketball at a high level and the NBA doesn't have to go to as great as lengths as it now to develop them.
But you disagree and that's cool, you definately made your points clear. It's a hot button topic, and I'm sure alot don't agree on this issue."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

And yes, Rocky, I understand what you're saying. I just disagree. Basically, it's like gay marriage or abortion... both sides understand what the other side is saying, but they disagree with their views.
Good discussion, fellas. It didn't turn into a name-calling fest like some of the other threads I've been posting in.
