Luka actually making a decent amount of all these threes he chunks up has him looking lethal this year.Comment

Has to be a playoff team out there who wants Marcus Smart right? I’d be fine with them moving him for almost any serviceable guard.Comment

what happened to the Gizz depth? It's so bleak. I know Adams got hurt but i thought they had more talent than this. Smart has been playing well prior to tonight. they are cooked without Ja.Wolverines Packers Cubs Celtics

They are without Ja, Adams, Clarke, Rose, Aldama.
And they basically swapped Brooks and Jones for Smart which is a downgrade.
They need a soft reboot.Comment

I'm not as gaga about Tyus as everyone else seems to be but yeah that's tough. Ja really cooked their season. especially with how good Bane has been.Wolverines Packers Cubs Celtics

Re: 10/24 - 11/6 Games Discussion Thread
It’s not that Tyus is a great player, he wouldn’t start for most teams across the league and many of them likely wouldn’t even have as large of a bench role as he did with the Grizz.. it’s more so that he was just the perfect fit for that team. He does nothing special but he doesn’t make mistakes, always plays within himself and always ran the team the way a true PG should.
On a team full of young guys, and just as a contrast to how wild Ja can play at times, it’s exactly what they needed. Just a guy to reel everyone in from time to time. He started 45 games for them over the last two seasons, they won 32/45 in those games. Of players who would qualify (1,000+ minutes) he led the entire league in AST/TOV ratio for each of the past 3 years in a row.
And then with Dillon Brooks he just does a lot of the same stuff Smart does. Guards the other teams best players, occasionally has a good offensive game. Brings the edge/attitude a decent team needs. He’s a level below Smart in a lot of ways, but I would even argue he was a slightly better fit too given he’s a bit better suited to defend the 6’8-6’9 wing guys. Not saying Smart isn’t a better player or better fit on most teams.. Plus there is just the chemistry aspect of both Brooks and Jones playing with this group for the past few years now.
Obviously I’ve let it known that I’m not all that high on Smart as a starting point guard for any team. And I was never that high on his fit for Memphis either just given what he brigs to the table. I feel like he often plays outside of his capabilities and this team is already full of players who do that. He is better than either of those guys on an island, but losing both of them (who I think fit them better individually anyways) is a huge blow to replace with just Smart IMO.
Smart will look better off ball more next to Ja, but assuming he starts that slides Bane to SF.. and even though Smart is a good defender Ja is a really bad one, and they’re going to be smaller than they ever have been by sliding JJJ to center in addition to the backcourt changes. Smart might wind up as a 6th man type, but I don’t really see that either.
I still think they messed up not trading Brooks and Clarke when they could. The combined money would net a solid player and they have picks to move. I still strongly feel they need a true PG, even when Ja returns I feel like they are missing something there. They don’t have enough isolation scorers and shot creators to just play-make by committee like other teams with 2-3 mega stars can do.
I’d be open to moving Smart, I think Adams and that contract, as well as 2-3 guys from the depth they have at the 4 spot. They have the picks to make a big trade, or 2-3 smaller trades. But if JJJ is the center moving forward they need a starting caliber 4 next to him. They have lots of good bench pieces at the 4, but nobody (especially with Clarke out) that you want to play 35 minutes a night.
Of course even if they don’t shake up the roster a bit having Ja, Clarke, Rose, Aldama all available will have them competitive. But that also means they are relying heavily on everyone being healthy, which they haven’t had much issue with over the past couple of years given how well they played without Ja and without JJJ.Comment

Re: 10/24 - 11/6 Games Discussion Thread
The rule is basically that you can’t touch the rim while the ball is also touching the rim. Draymond touched it when the ball was in the air and didn’t influence it going in at all, so no violation.
