Should awards like MVP and ROY consider playing minutes as a valuable stat?

Ok the reason I started this topic was the on going Rookie of the Year race and the MVP race this season. We have 2 guys nominated for ROY that are playing unbelievable. Ben Gordan and Emeka Okafor. The only problem is, people are saying that Emeka will easily win this award because he has started all season and has been close to averaging double-double. However Ben Gordan, who sees limited playing time and only plays most of his minutes in the 4th, is considered second among valuable rookies.

How is that? How is it that when one person helps a team win at least 15+ games by scoring 20+ points in the FOURTH QUARTER ALONE, be considered second in ROY? Yeah so the Bobcats arent that bad. Or are they? People have said they have exceed expectations and have won more games that people thought they would (But have you thought that maybe its not because the Bobcats are good, its because all the other teams with worst records are Horrible, with a CAPITOL H. HELLO??? how bout the bulls? They came from being a 10 win team to a 40 win season in 1 year. Not to mention they are a playoff team. And should be or close to moving into the 4th spot in the East.

Now my second point, Steve Nash/Allen Iverson. Ok alot of people have AI as the MVP, but look at his team. They're struggling to get to the playoffs. They're not only in the worst division (Atlantic) in the NBA but theyre also in the horrific Eastern Conference. Then you look at Steve Nash. A guy that doesnt score as much as AI but puts up double his assists (and less than half his shots) every game! How is it that these days, these awards are awarded to not how a person has helped the team. But based on the player's own statistics.

BASKETBALL IS A TEAM GAME. Awards should be handed out for players that help their team, not becasue they score 50 points a night.

I dont know, I guess maybe its because I just started watching the NBA consistenly again (after the Jordan years, it didnt entertain me as much) but I miss the days were the MVP award goes to players such as Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan, etc.

Sorry to rant, but I hate the fact that Ben Gordan would get screwed out of ROY because he doesnt start. ITs almost as bad as when Wade got snubbed last year. But then its "Lebron"

I agree with you 100%. I think the nba has gone down the drain anyway, that's just my opinion.

Well, let me just say this. First of all, the awards have not been given out yet. You seem to be all upset about nothing so far. It's just talk about who will win. In all honesty, the ROY could go to either Okafor or Gordon, or even Dwight Howard. And the MVP could go to either Nash, Shaq, or AI.

And I don't understand your "miss the days" remark. Last year, the MVP went to KG, who is a total team player. The two years before that, it went to Tim Duncan. That's three years that you've been "missing?" So, I don't understand that one.

I understand where you're coming from, but I think we just have to wait to see what the final outcome will be.

Stats like Points per Minute would help separate guys who put up 20 in 25 min and guys who put up 20 in 38 min and Points Per Shot Attempt will help separate guys like Nash from Iverson/Kobe
