Why dont the Nuggets get more run on here?

Re: Why dont the Nuggets get more run on here?
Granted, it's been a great run. They've played amazing team ball, and everyone is buying into what Coach Karl is selling. But for me, I think they should have been up there to start off with. They were supposed to be one of the best teams coming out of the west. So, that first 1/3rd of the season, they just wasted it. They should be taking the number 3 seed instead of fighting for 5th, 6th or 7th. -
Re: Why dont the Nuggets get more run on here?
As a longtime sportswriter, I might be able to shed some light on this for you.
Essentially, here's the answer to your question in two parts:
1) They're the Nuggets - they've been bad for a long, long time, and haven't challenged for a title since the early 1980's. Until they become a perennial contender, they'll be met with skepticism and an oft-dismissive approach.
2) They're in Denver. It's in the midwest; the Mountain time zone - and if you're not on a coast or in a huge metroplex like Chicago or Dallas, it's very tough to get national press. It's just a fact of life.
Denver's had the second-most Super Bowl appearances in history (six), and had the first NFL team to repeat as Super Bowl champs in the NFL's free agency era, and the Broncos had a legendary superstar in John Elway at the helm when they accomplished that. That said, they still never got as much media play as the Pats did when they won back-to-back.
Why? It's simple - the Pats play near Boston. On the national level, what happens in Boston is perceived as more important as what happens in Denver. If the Jets ever even made it to a Super Bowl at all, I assure you that the media coverage would be much more encompassing than if a Denver, Kansas City, Tennessee or it's ilk won it. It's just the nature of the media beast.
If it's any consolation, though - your favorite team's championships count just as much as any won in New York or L.A. - no matter how little comparative coverage they might get. And isn't that really what matters?Last edited by sdrotar; 04-16-2005, 05:46 AM.Shawn Drotar

Re: Why dont the Nuggets get more run on here?
True. Then again, Bzdelik wasn't exactly the best coach for them. Still, if Seattle continues it free-fall and Denvers continues to blow teams away, they might still get that 3rd seed.Originally posted by ShaKobeGranted, it's been a great run. Edit: Forget that. Didn't know Sonics won their game today.Last edited by Leon; 04-16-2005, 10:40 AM.Comment

Re: Why dont the Nuggets get more run on here?
I'm hoping to God that the Nuggets beat the Rockets Tonight!!!... If they do, the Nuggets move to 6th Seed, and the Rockets drop to 7th, and the Spurs will have to play the Rockets in the first round...
I'm scared to death of the Nuggets.
This way, if the Spurs play the Rockets, they can ease Duncan and Brown back into the lineup, but not too fast. Glenn Robinson can also get his game back in that series.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment

The Rockets are very capable taking out the Spurs. They have very good defense and can also blow-up on offense. IMO, the Nuggets and the Rockets are the two "underdog" teams no-one wants to play.Comment

Re: Why dont the Nuggets get more run on here?
Nuggets don't get more run on here because Carmelo is the face of the Nuggets and most here arent fans, in fact many outright root against him.
Its kinda like TNT, Charles Barkley went on & on early on about how the Nugs were so overrated and were failing, but now that they're doing good, No one has anything to say...Comment

Ah yeah those were the days!

That was probably the biggest upset i've ever seen. That Sonics team was scary.
As for this year's edition of the Nuggets I think they'd get more play on here if they had played consistent all year. I think that they'll be a very dangerous team in the playoffs.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Because most of this board is Lebron huggers, who think Lebron is the man, Melo is no where near that. They also think Melo playoff run is a fluke and Bron playoff run is by himselfOriginally posted by Tha_KidNuggets don't get more run on here because Carmelo is the face of the Nuggets and most here arent fans, in fact many outright root against him.

Well, the LeBron-Carmelo comparison isn't really fair anyway.Originally posted by nbasuperstar40Because most of this board is Lebron huggers, who think Lebron is the man, Melo is no where near that. They also think Melo playoff run is a fluke and Bron playoff run is by himself
.
There's no question that LeBron's the superior player, and there never really was. LeBron's a once-in-a-generation type player, and to my mind, already looks significantly better that Michael Jordan at the same point.
I just hope that Cleveland can find a way to fight off all those Nike "kicker" dollars and keep him there. I'm not optimistic. He has "future Knick" written all over him...
However, the way Carmelo has played in the last half of the season, especially wth much harder work on the board and on defense, suggests that Carmelo could quickly become one of the top 15 players or so in the NBA in short order, and that's nothing to be ashamed of.
However, last night's loss to Houston (Denver's a different team without Marcus Camby in the lineup, aren't they?) all but ends the Nuggets' hopes of making any real noise in the playoffs. Denver has the firepower to beat the Spurs, but the Spurs are battle-tested, and playoff games run at a much slower pace - so I don't see how Denver can realistically take four of seven from the San Antonio unless Tim Duncan has major complications coming back from his injury.
On the bright side, coming into next season with two-first-round picks and a room to add a decent veteran at the mid-level exception, I would think that Denver should be the prohibitive favorite in the Northeast Division, and be in line for a top-three seed next year - which would be right on GM Kiki Vandeweghe's timetable for the Nuggets' stunning resurrection in the tough Western Conference.Shawn Drotar

Re: Why dont the Nuggets get more run on here?
Denver has a better team. They're getting into the playoffs because they are coached very well and they have other people that can score on a consistent basis. Plus they have a very underrated pg in Andre Miller. He's a guy that runs the fast break very well which is why they are beating up on teams. Melo' can go out and have a poor game and the Nuggets still have a very good chance to win the game. They have two intimidators on the inside in Camby and K-Mart so teams don't get alot of easy inside shots against them. Cleveland on the other hand is a bad, bad team consisting of castoffs and garbage min. players. If they do make the playoffs it will be because James takes them there. And as far as talent, sorry, Carmelo is not on LeBron's level yet and I highly doubt he ever will be. Put James at the SF slot in Denver and that is a club that would win 50-54 games on a regular basis(Karl would need to be there too though). Karl deserves coach of the year, and Melo' has become a more balanced player since he took over. But Melo' is still not the passer Lebron is or as good at finishing as James. Rebounding wise, they're about the same and I think LeBron still has a slight edge defensively(both of them could use alot of work though). The Nuggets don't get alot of respect and they should. I think they're the kind of team that could beat a Phoenix or Seattle(not San Antonio though). The West is so stacked top to bottom though that it's easy to overlook a team like Denver.Originally posted by nbasuperstar40Because most of this board is Lebron huggers, who think Lebron is the man, Melo is no where near that.
