all signs so far point to him being a pretty good player. he had a great practice yesterday. we will see when the games get here though. i think he is going to wear down quick this season thought given the amount of ball hes played in the last couple of years. but i expect him to be a factor by next season. -

HE might not be any more than a shooter to bring big men in the west outside. Thats onlyh if he can shoot as good as everyone is sayin...-Jay Illestrate, Emcee/Producer/Graphic Artist

Re: Yao Ming NBA Debut Tonight
Yao Ming is the ideal number one pick. He was not the best player in the draft and if you drafted by talent alone, he probably would have fallen to number 14 or so. (Butler will be the next Pierce, mark my word!)
anywayz...Ming will be a body and brings something to the Rockets.
He will:
1. Push Centers outside b/c of his perimeter game. Hopefully the Rockets draft, sign, wateva big rebounders around him to help the offensive rebounding game.
2. Kill any Zone Defense. He will be outside most of the time and that will kill a zone defense since the defense would not be able to have a man cover the basket.
3. Change shots. Even if the guy averages 0.00001 blocks a game, he will be a factor in the paint. His long hands will force players to change their shots mid air and may result in low field goal percentages. I see Ming as a factor against teams with small guards that drive to the basket (Sixers), but a non factor against teams like the Lakers who have outside shooters and **cough, cough** a nasty big guy in the middle.
4. He will open up the game for Steve Francis. With the center on the outside, Francis will have more wiggle room to drive into the lane and do whateva he pleases with the rock. Francis should see his scoring average rise about 3 points this season, guarenteed.
5. Forget abotu him being in foul trouble. He'll put the opposing team in foul trouble. With Francis driving down the lane and the big guys outside protecting Ming, the help defense will be forced to crowd the basket and we'll probably see a load of blocking fouls from the defense. Which also helps the Rockets stop the clock and add points to the scoreboard.
Obviously there are some things Ming cant and wont do. He'll get bullied by everyone b/c he is too thin right now. He might feel a little pressured to perform and I expect his shooting percentage to suffer b/c of it. However, thanks to a great coach in Rudy T. Yao Ming wont let the frustration hurt his game. Rudy will keep him focused. Ming will have one big game at home and win the fans over. Then he'll be fine.

A healthy Mo Taylor will keep the lane blocked a bit so I wouldn't bank on Stevie Franchise going up 3 points a game. Add to the fact that Griffin will deserve more shots as well as a healthy Glen Rice and Ming so Francis will probably go up in assists but my guess his average stays about the same.Comment
