The nuggets needed a PG, but the wizards didnt need anything. Thats sort of weird to put a trade out like this so soon ebfore tip off.

All Whitney can do is shoot the 3. He's an undersized McCloud. He has to play point b/c he's too small to play any other position and they've got more versatile players now, not to mention Dixon who's Whitney with crazy D, so they don't need him anymore.

I bet McCloud is either cheaper or his contract is up at the end of the year. This was strickly a move to free up money as neither player would've/will see any time on the Wiz.

McCloud makes $2.6 million in the final year of his contract, and Whitney makes $3 million.
Whitney, a nine-year veteran, has a team option for $3 million during the 2003-04 season that would be guaranteed if he plays more than 2,600 minutes this season.

aaahhh, i don't know about this one! McCloud is a decent player, defensively he's not as good as Whitley os against opposing player. but his shooting mid-range and behind the arch is needed....

And there you have it.

Besides this was a pretty classy thing for the Wiz to do. Whitney was all but pushed out of getting any playing time whatsoever so they trade him away and he could get well over 30 minutes a game.

Lue, Dixon, Hughes, Jordan, Stackhouse, Russell, Jefferies

Those are the G's and F's on the Wizards. Where would either of these players get any time? This was a money decision for sure.

Good job by Kiki.

This way, they won't have to rush the development of the boys they were going to play at PG before acquiring Whitney (namely Satterfield).

Although it would have been good for them to lose McCloud's contract at the end of the season to add to that cap-space, it's probably better overall that they get a veteran Point Guard to ease the development of their young guys. Besides, Whitney's deal is only 1 year longer. No big deal.

i hear ya "WW". i watched the game last night and they (Wizards) only had 9 points at after 1 quarter! they need offense, badly. McCloud could compliment Stackhouse off the bench....

Don't overreact over one preseason game. Remember their bench will consist of Dixon, Lue, Jordan, Jeffries and Russell. They'll have plenty of scoring from the bench.

Look at it like this: They need 3's off the bench...are they going to bring in McCloud who is good for nothing else or Dixon who can D up a PG better than Jordan, Stack or Hughes but come in as a SG since one of them would be bringing the ball up the court? You can think of a million different scenarios and there are very few where I see McCloud's name.

The Nuggets will benefit from this trade by using Whitney and having Kenny come off the bench. McCloud will help the team with his three's and bring in some vertanship to the young bench squad.

well it'd be nice if that were even true but nothing young about Jordan, Russell, Oakley and Laettner. McCloud was a beast in college and has had a pretty good NBA career. Nothing at all against the guy, but he'll be lucky if he gets 10 minutes a game.
