Can someone who has BOTH ID 2003 and NBA 2K3 talk to me??
I need to know how they both compare to each other in terms of career play, player development and finally authentic gameplay...Im reading alot of impressions tonight of ID 2003 bt nothing in direct comparison to 2K3. I have ID 2002 and liked it alot but am really enjoying this year's NBA 2K3...My only gripe with the game is 2K3's stiff and somewhat herky jerky movements on some animations....and the fast pop straight up toaster rebounding animations. Along with some fluid fastbreak passing problems from time to time that ruin an otherwise great game....really great game

Easy there, the game just came out. I have both, and Inside Drive is a very good game. It is very smooth, and plays great transition basketball. I haven't dabbled in the franchise mode because NBA2k3 keeps calling me back. I'd say NBA2k3 is the better of the two. The atmosphere is better, the franchise mode has everything you can ask for, and the game play is extremely realistic. The game feels more polished than ID. Being able to change your shot is a big deal for me and adds a lot to the game.
ID craps all over NBA2k3's create a player, and has excellent dunks imo. You cant go wrong with either game, as they are one and two on my list after playing the big three this year. Maybe if it had online, I'd be more conflicted. But with 2k3 having a college game tie in, and online play, it remains champ in the vein of Apollo Creed in rocky 1. I would not be surprised if next year is ID's year, they are extremely close, now they need to polish and buff their product. Little things like generic coaches, and not being able to pass out of a layup once the animation begins shows that the game is gradually growing into primetime. -
Re: Can someone who has BOTH ID 2003 and NBA 2K3 talk to me??
i agree with driddy mostly, but i think ID edges out 2k3. The graphics are about tit for tat, but the gameplay is better than 2k3. I also think the animations are better in ID. In ID you can have a fast paced game and a slowed down game, its rare to have a fast game in 2k3. 2k3 presentation is of course better, but ID is not bad at all. ID dunks and layups look better than 2k3. But 2k3 is online, and thats where it has an advantage. But overall i think 2k3 is a good game, but ID is the better one of the two.Comment

I agree, ID 2003 definately plays the better game, and the animations are unbeatable. The flow of the game is very fluid and smooth and the gameplay is just so deep.
My recommendation is ID > 2k3.-------------------------

Re: Can someone who has BOTH ID 2003 and NBA 2K3 talk to me??
I think both games are great!! It really depends on what is important to you. I think the gameplay of ID 2003 is awesome. It was the first time I played the game and had a lot of fun playing.
At times with NBA 2k3 I get bored at times during the game. The presentation of NBA 2k3 is awesome and the espn feel really makes that game.
I give the nod to ID 2003 because gameplay is so important to me. The passing out of the layup or dunk animations has not been that big of a deal but the pace of the game is great and the passing is much more enjoyable in ID 2003.
Good luck with your choice, both games rock, can't wait till next year.

Yeah I also am completely baffled by this as well considering this is a MICROSOFT game and they are trying to endorse XBOX LIVE!
Any other comparisons between these 2 games after a few solid days of playing it?...Im really on the edge hereComment

Re: Can someone who has BOTH ID 2003 and NBA 2K3 talk to me??
Just a quick impression from me. I have played both, but I have much more time in NBA2K3.
I agree with a lot of what people said before. One thing where there is no compairison, is Franchise mode. NBA2K3 is way better. From the whole draft process, to the management of the team. NBA2K3 holds a clear edge over ID.
As far as gameplay goes, I do think that ID might be a better single player bball game. This could change of course, but I was winning pretty easily on All-Star on NBA2k3, but with ID I got killed my first game. The computer seems to play much smarter. For example, the computer will keep on feeding it to a hot player in ID, and not waste their time shooting it with a cold player (unlike me). If you play a lot of basketball solo, then this will probably give you a better game. Winner ID (so far). By the way, ID's sliders are much easier to use then NBA2k3.
I think graphic wise, ID has better motion capture. It just feels smoother. On the negative side, there is some serious slow down at times. Don't know why this happens, but the game does get really slow at times (this does not happen that often). I think player faces on NBA2k3 are better as well as the crowds. Stadiums are a toss up, but I tend to like NBA2k3 (maybe because the crowds look so bad in ID). Graphics are really a toss up.
Create a Player ID wins in a landslide. It is really cool being able to improve your player based on the acomplishments he makes in a game. Plus there are so many things you can customize. ID is the clear winner.
Control. Both are excellent. I still get annoyed with the Xbox controller sometimes. I swear if you don't press it hard enough, it won't registe the button press. This has cost me when I try and though the lob pass. Oh well. By the way, someone mentioned earlier how ID was the first to use the right stick for freestyle control. That is true. It does add a lot and I like that you can customize it. It is early, but I am liking ID's control slightly better, but they are very similar.
Sound. I just prefer NBA2k3, but it could just be me. They both are pretty solid.
Extra stuff. NBA2K3 rules because of on-line play. Like everyone else, don't know why ID doesn't have it, but there is next year. NBA2k3 also has a nice street mode and other things. ID does have a good practice mode which is good for learning how each player reacts differently. It was suprisingly helpful.
So in the end, which one is better. I think they will both be played a lot on my Xbox. I think with on-line play, a killer franchise mode, and solid gameplay, NBA2k3 is a great game. But as far as playing a great single game of basketball, ID is tough to beat. With a killer create a player, and awesome moves, and a smart CPU, this game will be played when I want a fast, realistic game of basketball.Comment

Dang Matt, those are some of the best comparison impressions I've ever read. Very well thought out, open and honest. Damn nice job!-------------------------

Re: Can someone who has BOTH ID 2003 and NBA 2K3 talk to me??
Thanks. I know in today's economy $50 is a lot of money and I hope I can help people spend their money wisely. Now is really important because their is a lot of great games coming out before Christmas. Plus their are some killer DVDs which I have to own (LOTR, AOTC, BTTF, Minority Report, etc.) My tastes just can't keep up with my income (or my wife's).
There is one thing I wanted to add that I really like in ID. That is the Drive camera angle. I have always had tough time finding a camera that I like, because too far away, and I lose the graphic detail I want, too close and I lose too much court. The Drive camera angle is awesome in ID. It plays and rotates right behind the player, but gives a good view of the court. If you have ID, try this angle. Best in any bball game I have played.
Another thing that I like in ID is the post game. By pressing on the control stick, the player will perform different shots. Press it left or right, and it is a hook shoot. Push it back, and the player will step out for a jump shot. Very cool. Also, since NBA2k3 removed the ability to back people down (I have also had 300 pound centers unable to back down a 180 point guard, which you could do in all other NBA2k games) I enjoy the post game in ID better. I backed down Shaq on just dunked it in when their PG was posted up against me.
For you franchise nuts out there, the trading AI in ID is really tough. Almost too tough. You really have to wow them with a trade to get a player. They do not like to trade younger players. It is good, but it can be frustrating at times. Right now I am leaning towards NBA2k3, but this just gets back to the overall stronger franchise of NBA2k3.
If you are like me, and play a lot of bball solo (too many of my friends these days are having kids, like me who has a 6 month at home) a strong AI is really important in a game. That is why if you like basketball, try ID. If you have doubts, rent it. The computer will put up a fight without cheating, and will make for a fun experience. Good luck, and if anyone has a question about either game, let me know.
By the way, I am stuck at work, so sorry for the long e-mails. Nothing else better to do other than to talk about one of my favorite subjects, sports videogames.Comment

Good post Matt, but you didn't mention ID commentary wiping the floor with NBA2k3.
I'm surprised Sega's basketball commentary falls so far behind Microsoft's (considering how great NFL2k3's commentary is)Fulham FC...Showin' em love.

Re: Can someone who has BOTH ID 2003 and NBA 2K3 talk to me??
I love how ID is really fluid in terms of running fast breaks or play calling. 2K3 is always so stiff, and 2k2 felt so awkward smtimes, and could be very frustraighting. I still havn't recieved my ID 2003 in the mail yetbut hopefully tomorow.

Re: Can someone who has BOTH ID 2003 and NBA 2K3 talk to me??
I'm considering buying ID after reading all of these posts but I check out the screenshots of ID and the shooting animation looks terrible.
Maybe it was last yrs version but I was wondering if anyone thought the shooting animations looked bad or not.Comment
