    Suns versus Mavs... who wins?

Phoenix Suns versus Dallas Mavericks in the upcoming 7-game series. Who will win?

The Phoenix Suns are everything the Dallas Mavericks used to be. Lots of scoring, lots of running, and nobody around to rebound, block shots, or play defense. The Mavs have bent over backwards trying to get away from that sort of playing style... in large part due to their annual inability to succeed in the playoffs. It'll be interesting to see the "Old Mavs" play the "New Mavs" this coming week.

I'm betting that the Phoenix Suns are going to find out the hard way exactly why the Mavs had to reinvent themselves after three years of being the premiere run-and-gun high octane offense of the league. Sweeping the Grizzlies ain't no feat for the Suns to be proud of. Not when Memphis finished their season losing 20 of their final 35 games. The Mavs have only lost in 3 of their past 16 games.

And I'd look for Steve Nash to get severely burned by whoever he's "guarding". In his time with the Mavs, Nash had a habit of making opposing point guards look like Hall-of-Famers... particularly in the playoffs. Jason Terry is practically salivating right now.

And who's gonna guard Amare?Dirk?Damp?Josh Howard?I wouldn't be surprised if Dirk struggles a bit against Matrix either. It's gonna be a good series, but lets face it...It's still gonna be offense vs offense and the better of the two offense's should win.I do like the fact that Dallas is starting to play some D and Avery is gonna mix and match a bit so we'll see.

They held opponents to .445 FG, a few tenths of of a point from top ten in the NBA.

      +7.1 point differential.

#3 in the league in opponent 3pt FG%

#9 in Blocked Shots per game, better than Houston by the way and right behind Dallas

Tops in the leauge in Defensive rebounding.

Suns, no contest. Especially if dirk continues to struggle.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Haha nice, beat me to it.

But i'm taking the Suns. Marion always plays good D on Dirk, and without him the Mavs are nothing.

And this Suns team is definately not like the Mavs teams of the past years.

Like everyone else, I like the Suns. They just have better shooters off the bench and considering they beat a solid Memphis team in a sweep.

Dallas played well in the series against the Rockets but at times they didn't play any defense at all. Avery Johnson have to tighten the defense against the suns for them to have any chance.

but this should be a very entertaining series. It's the best matchup in the playoffs so far IMO.

Re: Suns versus Mavs... who wins?

The Mavs have proven all year they are not a one man team. Their depth siply wears teams down late in games. The Suns will get a taste of this often when they realize they have to play all their starters 40+ minutes throughout this series.

Dirk will be much better because the Suns simply don't rotate aswell as Houston defensively. I think too many of you are putting too much stock into the Rockets series. This series will be more wide open and less halfcourt execution so Dirk will get just about any shot he wants without a 2nd or 3rd defender coming to help. Marion might have caused a few problems for Dirk but much of it was off of help defense and Dirk still averaged like 23 and 16 vs Phoenix.

The one team that can run and gun with Phoenix is Dallas. The two teams played 3 games this year with Phoenix averaging 114.8 to Dallas 114.3 not much of an advantage if you ask me. The Mavs are really worried about Amare getting his points because they will use the same formula as they did against Yao. He's goint to score regardless so they turn their attentions over to the Suns perimeter players. The Mavs matchup well on the perimeter and the ine thing that Dallas can do is wear down Nash because they can throw 3 very quick and athelitic PG's at him for 4 qtr's.

I think people are forgetting that Amare is susceptible to foul trouble aswell. Dallas ability to attack Nash with anyone of their PG's will force Amare to provide help defense and rotate over which isn't soething he thrives at yet. He most likely could find himself playing with 4-5 fouls per game aswell. I actaully think this is a better matchup for Dampier siply because he's not at a height or weight disadvantage with Amare. He's not quick enough to defend him outside the paint but down low where Dampier is more effective I think Amare could have problems especially if Dallas runs that combo zone at Phoenix that caused them problems in spurts during this two teams matchups.

I'll touch more on this series later one thing that might standout early in this series monday night is how Dallas comes after Nash. I gurantee you will see Avery come at full court defensively with Terry and Armstrong to wear him down offensively and attack the rim when he's on the defense. The Mavs will target Nash this series because they realize that Suns offense runs through him. Unlike T-Mac the Mavs have guy's that can slow Nash down and dissrupt him it will show late in games.

I have Dallas in 6 simply because they will score enough points to offset any advantage Phoenix has on that end and they have are more willing to play defense on the other end than the Suns. THe Mavs depth will also help to offset any small advantage the Suns might have because they allow Dallas to rest their big gun's to stay fresh late in games.

Sorry but in terms of Bench play Dallas beats the Suns easily.Stack can come in and give you 30 in about 30 minutes...And if they can get KVH back maybe for game 3-4 then that's gonna be a big boost...

If Hunter plays the way he did in the first series, and Barbosa steps it up a little bit......I have no worries about our bench.
