Don't know if I can even answer this but I do want to make it tougher. Throw Paul Pierce's name up there too. His stats were better than both last year. Can't figure out who of the 3 I think is on top.

Man that is a tough questions. I think they both are great and neither has reached their potential. Kobe, to me, seems a bit arrogant. But imo i think he can be, due to the fact he backs it up sheer athletic ability. But Mcgrady is my man. I just like him alot more.

        McGrady.

Just based on the fact that he has had to carry a team as the lone star.

Both Kobe, and Pierce have another all-star to fall back on.

Keep in mind that McGrady played a good portion of the year with that nagging back injury. And Paul Pierce's defense is his downfall.

Very good question, and very tough to answer! I guess this can also go into the "team" concept. In other words, depending on the supporting cast around each player, arguments can be made for both. I guess if I had to start a team, I would go with T-Mac. Both are great players and want the ball. Neither guy shys away from pressure. I just see T-Mac evolving more and more, while I don't see the same from Kobe. It could be due to the Shaq factor. It will be interesting to see how T-Mac plays with a healthy Grant Hill. Okay, enough rambling.

Both players are really good. McGrady is better when it comes to taking charge for his team and Kobe is better when he needs to take over a game. But I'll be a little bias and say Kobe, but TMac is right there behind him.

                Re: Kobe vs. McGrady

Pierce averaged over 2 steals a game last year. In fact his career steal average is better than both Kobe and TMac and the Celtics are known more for their D than the Lakers or Magic. Can't sleep on Peirce's D. You also can't really talk about TMac's back without mentioning that Pierce was stabbed about 7 times and thought he was dead shortly before last year's preseason.

Personally I like TMac, Kobe, then Pierce. But if you look at the numbers and situations it's almost a wash. Kobe's numbers sky rocket when Shaq's not around. Walker had to change his game just b/c Pierce was so good so fast. Very tough question.

Nicely said wwharton. This is a tough question to answer, especially because Kobe and McGrady are my two favorite players. I have to give the edge to Kobe though, because he's proven himself on a bigger stage. McGrady can't really help that his teams haven't been championship caliber, but he's still got plenty of time left to prove otherwise. And just think, they're both under 25!

I like all of them. Pierce is great, but in the playoffs last year, he didn't perform like he did in the season. Both T-Mac and Kobe did better in the post-season, than the season. With that said, I think it's a toss-up between Kobe n TMac, simply because since TMac is so unselfish, he would've won 3 championships playin' with Shaq, like Kobe is.

The only problem I have with your reasoning is Pierce would've won 3 titles with shaq, AI would've, Payton would've, probably even Ray Allen would've. A great player with 3pt range is more than enough to complement Shaq. Don't know if that's a good way to judge.

I do have a feeling TMac's going to be the one to rise above the rest, but nothing that I can think of to say why I think that way.

No, because most of these people don't play defense, other than AI and GP. But TMac n Kobe are jus simply better than the rest. If we made a topic, whose the best 2, Kobe n TMac, maybe Finely and AI would be up here. Kobe n TMac have, simply what none of the other 2 guards in the league have, and that's size, and un-taught, raw, athletic ability...

I want to state that Kobe is good, really good, but he has an weapon that no one has, Shaq. Lets look at something Penny Hardaway with Shaq 21.7 points 7.1 ast 4.5 rebs 2 steals.. Please note the steals its easy to play more agressive when U have a Brick wall protecting the lane. Shaq makes u better point blank. Peirce has Tione Mcgrady has who......exactly. Mcgrady hands down is better then kobe, not by a whole lot but he is better. AI is also is up there but he couldn't guard these guys but they would have a better chance guarding him.

Offensively speaking, he(Paul P) puts up more shots than Kobe, so I think his number will look better. Kobe's has taken over games in the FINALS the others haven't done it, so until they get to that point, I rate KOBE the best, we all saw what Karl Malone did in the Finals Great Player, but could not put it together in the finals. Funny stat, Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker put up more 3's combined than the entire Laker Team!

Like Gizmo, being a laker fan, I think I may be a tad bit bias.
