We certainly need more scoring off the bench.

I'm surprised Fields only contributed 6 points. Only took 5 shots and settled for the 3.

When he attacks the rim he frees up other guys.

Still, can't be mad after last night. I think that's the best feeling I've had about this team after a loss in a loooooooooooong time.

BTW, a big man in the paint kills Stat. That's terrible for him. When he makes his moves and goes in, it's because there isn't anyone else in the paint. A big man just crowds the paint. IMO he can't do well with a solid big man around - he needs to be able to go one on one to succeed.

I think the problem with the big man is solved if the Knicks get a scoring forward. STAT would be the big man they need. Like Pared said, if you put a slow big man in the middle, it clogs up STAT's space.

The issue, as I see it (and in no way suggesting I'm absolutely right) is that Stoudemire acts like the scorer both inside and at the top of the key. So when he is inside looking to post up, he has no one to look for except for a three point shooter.

Last night when he's being guarded by Garnett, Stoudemire had no place to move around because the Celtics D collapsed on him in the perimeter. If there was another scoring forward who can hit the top of the key shot that doesn't happen. That's where an Anthony comes in.

Besides that, yes, the Knicks need a back-up point guard badly. Felton can't keep pushing himself to 40 minutes a night. If he can drop down to 32, 34 and take some breaks here and there then that would be great. I like Toney Douglas but he isn't a point guard like Felton.

I think the backup unit bumps up their scoring if you add a complimentary forward for STAT because that pushes either Chandler or Gallinari to the bench. And if you have a better distributor for the second unit, suddenly Douglas is spotting up for shots and scoring more points.


By the way, the fact that we can actually talk about these things now is amazing. To think, these are our concerns with the franchise? We're talking about how to make them a championship team rather than better than a basement dweller.

Good post CMH. I understand his liabilities but Melo and Stat would be a nice combination to work off of.

Imagine those two working on the PnR. Right now, we don't have someone I would consider "deadly" from mid-range like Melo. Stat giving Melo's defender a bump gives Melo room to hit the J and Stat the chance to vary his options as well. Right now it's give Stat the ball and clear out. Hell it's been working so far, but how long can this guy keep it up? The entire season?

If you look at the replay of Pierce's shot, the ball goes thru the hoop with 0.6 left enough time for Amar'e to take the same shot and make it count.

I kinda feel like you now... they took this game away from the Knicks.

Knicks were robbed, and that's not sour grapes. According to the rules, clock should have stopped at 0.6.

This was the first time in ten years I'm actually upset about a Knick loss.

At this point in my life I very rarely get fired up as a fan in any sport but last night was the first sporting event since UConn/Dook in the Final Four in 2004 where I had a headache after the game I wanted a W so badly. And it was a regular season game in December.

Wanted that one badly, want the one tomorrow even more.

It's not in the rules to review the clock on that shot.

The reality is: the amount of time that was shaved off is replaced when the Knicks inbound. Human's can only be so fast.

Hahn tweeted that Pringles asked the refs about the shot just after it happened and the refs said .4 was the correct amount of time left.

I'm not disagreeing with you. All I'm saying is that from the point that Amar'e touches the ball, someone has to press a button to run the clock down. The reaction time to do that is the same as the reaction time to stop the clock when the ball goes through the hoop.

Right now the Knicks offensive numbers are way over-inflated (see D'Amnphhony).

STAT around 24 PPG is enough because if we had a rebounder in there like Noah, they wouldn't need to score 110 PPG.

We'd be getting defensive stops...consistently.

I think the Knicks need a Noah-type player and a perimeter defender (ala Trevor Ariza).

Then we can talk.

Melo adds scoring punch and is a closer...which is always good.

But we need that paint locked down IMO.

Ah, I won't argue this. I was mostly commenting on the offensive side of the ball. It seemed people were concerned with the bench scoring and STAT having a big man to help him deal with the offensive load.
