You just have to hope Walsh will get the pieces we need by the deadline.

Like ehh said, we still have a coach that is trying to work his players to death.

Do you think if they add more peices, our stars like Amar'e will get any less minutes??

We have a full roster. Granted they're not great, but how would we have known if Shawn Williams was a servicable player if he didn't get to play??

That's a twisted comment, though. Shawn Williams did get to play. That comment is finding a way to fault D'Antoni for something he didn't even do.

I can understand the frustration with Randolph not playing. D'Antoni probably rushed Mozgov, but he's definitely a different player now than he was in the beginning of the year. So, wasn't D'Antoni right for benching him?

I don't know if D'Antoni has much of a choice. I don't like that he doesn't emphasize defense. But, the Knicks troubles aren't so much D'Antoni's fault. If Stoudemire doesn't play 40 minutes, who is going to carry that load? If Felton doesn't play 40 minutes, who's gonna be the point guard? These guys are playing big minutes out of necessity. D'Antoni is trying to win with very little pieces. That means putting guys on the floor for more minutes than they can honestly play.

But, if Stoudemire is playing 35 MPG and the Knicks are 26-25, what do you think people are going to say? Same with Felton? They'll argue that he isn't playing his stars enough.

The team doesn't have much depth. We may want to believe they do, but they don't. The truth is Felton isn't a prime time point guard, but he's their best point guard. Gotta make do with that. Mozgov isn't a starter, but who else is gonna play center? Should Fields really be out there for 30+ mpg? He's a hustle player, but that kind of guy comes off the bench. He has to do more with this team.

D'Antoni makes mistakes. I give everyone that. But he doesn't have much to work with here. And that's not a diss at Walsh. The Knicks were weaker before Walsh came in. It's a process. I get frustrated with this team because of lack of effort. I said it before and I'll keep saying it at least for this year with this roster: They can go 0-82, but if they tried in every game, I'll be happy.

At some point it's the coach's fault if the players don't come out to play. At some point. Then, you gotta start wondering what is going on with the players.

        edit:

I also want to add that I think Stoudemire is aware of the above. I know he doesn't want to single out coach, but he doesn't have to because Stoudemire plays with his teammates. Guys are not playing hard. The Knicks were 18-13 and suddenly thought that winning came easy. They forgot what it was like to lose. They don't come out to play in the first quarter. They try to fight from behind and all that does is show us, the fans, that this team is lazy.

They put up quite a performance when down 15 or more late in the game. Why isn't that hustle there early in the game? That's the frustrating part of it all. And Stoudemire knows it. So he says it. These guys aren't coming to play. No rotation, no strategy by D'Antoni is going to change that. If the players aren't trying, the coach's plan is doomed from tip-off.

          Great post. Well said.

I guess what i was trying to say was we know that he gave Mozgov minutes only because he had to. Mozgov is obviously not a starting center in this league yet, but he is decent at rebounding and blocking shots.

What i don't see the coach doing is making adjustments during winnable games. If they're getting killed on the glass. I don't see him changing the personnel to accommodate.
It's almost like his gameplan doesn't change; no matter what happens during the course of the game.

I just hate D'Antoni's "doghouse", as most people call it. It's so all-or-nothing. I hate how guys fall off the face of the earth when it comes to PT. Randolph and Mozgov were just AWOL for weeks on end when Amare was wearing down, our interior D was pathetic and we needed a boost. But nope, not meaningful minute for either of 'em. Not even an experimental thing. Those dudes were banished.

If Walsh secures a decent Center to play w/ STAT, acquires Melo, and retains Felton, I still think D'Antoni System is the WEAK LINK.

How does everyone know that defense wins chips yet they continue to have faith in D'Antoni's Style. I dont get it.

With a loaded Knicks Roster what is the ceiling here? Is Melo enough?

Could u provide a best case scenario then?

Walsh gets the roster correct, They dont get out of the second round and Mike gets canned. Three years later they're looked to dump salaries???

I think best case scenario is they get all these guys they want: STAT, Melo and Paul/Williams. And all three sit down with coach and say: "We need to play defense."

D'Antoni says he teaches it, but we know he doesn't. His offensive style doesn't allow that.

If D'Antoni is a great offensive coach, then he should be able to find a new system with ease. If he is a great offensive coach, as many like to believe.

I'm nto saying he isn't. I'm just saying he could have a chance to prove us wrong. I look at a guy like Mike Martz in Chicago (NFL). He did what he did with the Rams and it worked and then caught up to him. Now he comes to Chicago and changes his system to fit the players. That's an offensive coach. He knows offense.

D'Antoni can have the chance to prove that. If he can't, he should be dumped. It's really easy to take the "Fire Layden, Fire Thomas" chants and make it "Fire Toni." Really easy.

The question is: Are they hoping to win now or tomorrow?

I've spoken at length with my brother about this deal for months now. We saw this proposal and talked some more. We finally decided that we think Walsh should pull the trigger. Our reasoning is simple:

The Knicks are not winning a championship with the team they have now.

The Knicks are not winning a championship if they pull the trigger now.

BUT, the Knicks may become more tempting to good players if they have Stoudemire AND Anthony.

Free agents aren't coming to New York to play with Gallo or Landry Fields. They will come to play with STAT and Melo.

And as Miami has shown, you can be a very good team with three All-Stars and a bunch of role players.

Granted, things will have to change as both Boston and Miami are defensive minded teams. That's nothing new as anyone seriously following the Knicks know that the team must adopt a defensive mindset in order to be a championship caliber team.

Are Melo and STAT defensive minded players? Not exactly. But, role players can be. And that's what the Knicks will need to win a championship once they have two or three All-Stars on their squad.

Bring Melo in now. Have him with STAT. Wait till 2012 when a big point guard free agent class unleashes on the basketball scene and see what happens.

Gallo, Felton, Fields = replaceable. That's just the truth.

*I'm assuming Fields is the other starter Denver wants. I doubt they'd ask for Mozgov or STAT.

Well first of all, we have to keep our fingers crossed that Brain-Dead Dolan gives Walsh an extension. The fact he hasn't(and with Isiah constantly in his ear) is making me nervous. I don't think he's happy with the direction of the team.

The Knicks are where they are supposed to be. A barely over 500 team.

With a younger Indiana & Philadelphia on the come-up who both play better Defense.

I hope to see Melo, a decent big man, and a quality BENCH in the next 2 seasons, before I believe.

BUT, the Knicks may become more tempting to good players if they have Stoudemire AND Anthony..
You don't pull that deal now because the guy selling it to you has ZERO leverage.

That deal is rape...whether the Knicks intend to win now or in the future.

Seriously...where the hell did Chauncey Billups come into the equation? Denver has no legs to stand on but wants to "sneak" garbage into a trade package.

If Donnie wasn't as kind of a person that I think he is...he should've told the Denver front office to go F themselves with that kind of proposal.
