I'm fine with D'Amnphony if someone (Management, anyone) forces him to hire a Defensive Assistant Coach.

The man is good at Xs & Os.

Pringles D'Amnphony will not be back next year, but a nice supporting cast will be.

Nowhere did I say the Knicks should be pushing for him and trying to get him back. I wouldn't mind his talent on our team; I don't think anyone in their right mind turns away talent like that, especially since he's willing to come off the bench.

I couldn't have put it any better. Last night's game shouldn't have been close. Their help defense is atrocious. It's like the team is night and day when you compare how they play on both sides of the ball.

What I don't understand is that some guys and D'Antoni have said they just have to learn the defensive rotations and get comfortable still.

I mean, I never played in the NBA obviously but in HS, AAU, prep school and college the defensive rotations were always the damn same no matter what team I played on. It's a fundamental of the game.

Sure, you make personnel adjustments to not leave shooters, deny the ball, don't leave a driver to rotate to Crappy Big X, etc but the core stuff is always the same. Just a BS excuse.

You're completely right it's always the same but that's only for man to man. I can't recall the Knicks playing zone but they must be doing something wrong or different for players to look as lost as they do defensively.

Carmello gets lost often and I've watched his career enough to be able to say it's worse now. Guys end up completely out of position and not knowing who to cover.

I wonder if they practice anything of the sort...

It's casual fan nonsense, really. They aren't giving Knicks fans and the reporters enough credit. We aren't dumb. This is a basketball city. And they are acting like we don't know about defensive rotations and how these guys have all been playing basketball for at least 15 years of their lives. Not knowing how to defend assignments is a poor excuse. I agree with you.

There is nothing hard about knowing who to defend especially if you played basketball throughout high school and college. These aren't kids just learning the game. They are professionals. It's amazing how much stuff they try to throw at fans to act like these professionals have to learn something they should know just from playing the game for so many years.

I can understand if you get beat off the dribble. I can understand if someone just punishes you inside because they are stronger. And I can understand if they are out rebounded because the other team has taller players. I will never understand the excuse that players don't know who to defend and that they need to practice that. What is there to practice? I've seen better switching every week in pick-up games at the gym with my friends.

They don't necessarily play zone. Just watch their defense. Maybe you haven't looked out for it, but I'm sure you'll notice it now that it's been brought up. They don't play man-to-man straight up. They shadow offensive players to a zone. It's not completely zone. I'm not sure what the heck it is because I can't see why you'd teach it unless everyone on the court was Rajon Rondo.

And I'm 100% positive the Knicks do teach and practice defense. That's the scary thing about it.

I hope this isn't a disaster. I've been fairly impressed/surprised with his man-to-man defense lately. He gives up a good bit of size but he did great on LeBron last time, and when, for lord knows why D'Antoni stuck him on Bogut, he held his own. I didn't see the Cavs game, though.
