What do you mean they had no other option??? That's why it's called a Team Option.

So bring this guy back who will not make it through the season healthy and forgo getting a halfway decent big man.

I guess the Knicks really want to be like Miami and just throw some clown in the Center spot hoping your perimeter players are good enough.

I hope this is some last minute payback Donnie hit the Knicks with on his way out.

It's like it took the Knicks a decade to have some leverage and flexibility and they just buckle. Pay the guy $3M...tell him to find a better deal out there or come back for lesser money. That's what the Lakers did to Ariza. That's what savvy decision makers do.

Andre Miller is definitely not leaving portland to come here for a 1 year deal.

All the decent Centers we can't afford anyway, and most likely wouldn't have even considered coming here anyway.

The Post reported that the Donnie extension is as good as done, and bringing Wilson Chandler back could be a possibility.

Well in my 2K11 franchise I was able to sign Marc Gasol and Deandre Jordan with the $14 million, and draft Kemba Walker to play PG with the 17th pick, so we could have just done that.

Overpaying Billups is the type of bonehead move we do with Isiah. Seems like it is just a stop-gap until CP3 but c'mon...

Yes the Knicks could have bought him out @ 3.7, but then you add PG as another need. Leaving about 7 million in cap space. 1 mil goes our draft pick, leaving 6. Shawne Williams will be brought back. Let's say @ the LLE. That leaves 4-5 mil. That's not even MLE money.

Picking him up gives us MLE to throw @ Jordan or a SG like JR Smith. Needs we have. Not to mention a back up PG.

Is the Knicks biggest need PG? No.

Center has been the Knicks biggest need since Camby left/was traded away.

Screw the PG spot for now. The Knicks cannot rebound, block or defend down low. I absolutely HATE this move.

Even if you got one decent, above-average Center, it would've filled the biggest hole.

I'm not even begging for this to be realistic but at least give yourself a chance of doing this. Going after a FA. Even if he's restricted or not, let the other team's front office worry about matching.

DeAndre Jordan's not taking a MLE and if he did, it would be matched with the quickness.

The Knicks shot themselves in the foot.

No, it is not a Bad move. But it was not the smartest move out there. The ball was in their court and they blew it.

I'm really tired of the Chris Paul and 2012 talk. They just got swept in the playoffs with guys going down to injury, their starting SG looking like a HSer and getting mauled down low by an older team that "out-toughed" them.

With this move, tell me, what is the solution for Center next year? How about 2012, 13, 14?

Either way..I'm hearing they did it mainly to be able to package his expiring for another player.

Doesn't make sense to me. Deron is out of the question because the Russian would never give him to the Knicks.

CP3 has just made the playoffs and the Knicks have No assets to include.

Dwight's not getting dealt. And if he did..it wouldn't be to the East.

I guess the Knicks are content with fighting for a 5-8 seed next year and getting bounced again.

I think I agree. They likely don't see next year as a top contender season.

This is clearly about 2012. What they hope to do, I have no real clue. Maybe they hope Howard or Paul can be acquired via trade. If not, they'll probably ride out 2011/2012 with Billups and use that money to get one of those two, if the cap allows it.

In Walsh I trust at this point. I'm sure he has a plan.

If we can lock down Dwight for the same price as Stat and then be able to bring in CP3?

How can you NOT like that trade? I haven't looked into Arenas' contract but from what I recall it was a short one. If it lasts longer than next year it kills our PG chances but make no mistake about it - D12 brings defense and a presence in the paint. He's younger also.

Having seen Patrick for his entire career if we can get a REAL center it would be a nice compliment to Carmelo. Stat and Carmelo didn't exactly play off each other well from what I saw.
