I heard Phil Jackson's quotes(from an upcoming HBO RealSports interview) about the Knicks being a 'clumsy' team because the pieces don't fit. According to the Zen Master, the Knicks never called him, but he wouldn't have taken the job anyway. Not surprised - Phil would want a lot of money, power over the roster, and the ability to speak his mind to the media. That's not going to fly given the current politics at MSG. Jackson could never put up with a s*** owner like Brain-Dead Dolan.

I don't blame him, he knows it's going to be nearly impossible to win a title with our roster. After years of leading the Bulls and Lakers' legendary teams it'd be a tough mission with this team.
And besides, we've already had our share of disappointing older very good-great coaches (Wilkens, Brown). It would have been fun seeing Melo blossom in the triangle, I do think he'd eventually become a monster in it, but STAT would be unbearable to watch in that system."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Really difficult to tinker with a roster that has 3 Max players..one who has absolutely zero trade value.
Phil was taking one final shot at his old team for not reaching out to him.
He spoke the truth. But it's easy to throw rocks from a perch.
He can't coach a team that doesn't have an MVP candidate on it.

Re: The 2012 New York Knicks: The Filler Year?
Phil Jackson just can't resist tweaking the Knicks. What else is new? I still think Melo would thrive in his triangle offense and even Amare could benefit from it. I doubt Dolan ever seriously considered hiring Jackson. He prefers his coaches to be low maintenance and Phil is definitely a high maintenance guy.Comment

Re: The 2012 New York Knicks: The Filler Year?
Kind of becoming clear that the Knicks will draft a SG.
Iman isn't expected back until January at the earliest.
Fields is a RFA. JR has an option.
Looking at the available 2nd SG in the mock drafts, I'm seeing:
-Darius Johnson-Odom (Marquette)
-Kevin Murphy (Tennessee Tech)
-Kim English (Mizzou)
-William Buford (Ohio State)
Out of all of them I'd go with Kim English because of his length and shooting ability.
But I expect the Knicks to go with DJO because he can play PG/SG and we are short at PG to begin with.Comment

Never heard of him.
I'll have to YouTube him.
Stats become skewed against lesser competition.
To be honest I'd like the Knicks to go after a guy like Kyle O'Quinn from Norfolk State. But I don't see them going for a big.

This is certainly good news for the Knicks. Now they can target bigger fish this summer.Comment

Also, I know I said this already, but seriously LOL at this even being necessary. I can't understand how you spend months over a new CBA only to have the wording in it being challenged.
Who gave these lawyers their degrees?"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: The 2012 New York Knicks: The Filler Year?
Allow me to rant;
I look at other front office's and how they build their teams, then I look at the Knicks and I get so frustrated and ticked off. We have three max players who don't fit and one of them is on the downside of his career with no trade value. And we have a meddling idiot for an owner. So how will the Knicks get the pieces necessary to become championship caliber(like in the 90s) and beat Miami? What do I have to look forward to?
Make me feel optimistic, guys.Comment
