Also, even with Rose's suspect knees, he's an upgrade on defense in comparison to Calderon.

Phil just said in the Rose presser that he plans on re-signing Lance and Galloway. Lance will be cheap, Galloway will be interesting as an RFA.

I like both of those guys. Phil's words when he described them were hard working, and high character. Definitely fit the zen thing.

              "Healthy" is the key word.

Need both back. Both versatile players. Plus they both love to defend and make timely baskets.

                  • Jerian Grant went from underwhelming rookie to future above-average PG.
                  • Robin Lopez, who was our Plan C or D last summer and everyone in the media laughed at us for signing him, is a guy who should have been labeled as untouchable by our FO.
                  • Calderon is now a serviceable backup PG who the Bulls are lucky to have.

This trade is going to be one heck of an anuhlittucks vs eye-test case. Advanced stat disciples laugh at the Knicks for making the deal. Others think it's a home run for the Knicks. Former/current players think it's a great deal for the Knicks. Both fan bases hate the deal.
This is what I saw too and I was thoroughly confused at how disgusted Knicks fans/writers and other NBA heads were with it. I understand why Bulls fans would be upset but even Woj seemed completely baffled as to why the Knicks gave up so much.

I like RoLo but he's not going to be a difference maker on a noncontender. Jerian Grant struggled last year and has a low ceiling. Calderon is washed.

I kept hearing it referred to as a "salary dump" for the Bulls but aren't we the ones that are really pawning off the money?

Rose isn't near as explosive at the basket as he once was, but he still has "feline quickness" and can be an effective player.

The Knicks gave up "that much" to maintain their cap flexibility. No point in adding an upgrade in point guard without the assurance you can add other necessary pieces.

It's weird that so many writers are complaining because Rolo is moving. I barely read a good thing about him all season and, like others have said, suddenly he's a top center.

Signed Ron Baker to a one year deal.

I read an SB Nation scouting report on him that says he's an undersized, unathletic 2 but he's a great shooter, makes smart decisions with and without the ball, and has a high work ethic. Sounds like another Zen Master disciple.

Seems like Phil's done a 180 degree turnaround. Instead of preaching slow growth and continuity, the Knicks have gone back to their old way of doing business, signing big name players(who aren't what they used to be) to make a splash. We all know how that's worked for this franchise. Been through this song & dance for decades, going back to Spencer Haywood and Marvin Webster.

Watched plenty of Baker in college. Smart, tough kid but don't think he has a prayer of making an NBA roster.

I guess I understand this perspective to a certain extent but this is so different than past deals.

This isn't giving up two Top 10 picks for Eddy Curry
This isn't giving up a Top 10 pick for McDyess
This isn't giving up a Top 10 for Barnyarni

It's giving up an average center and a PG with an average ceiling for an injury-prone but talented point guard. We didn't give up draft picks and we didn't hurt our cap situation.

The point guard market blows this summer. We improved our biggest area of weakness and will be able to find a reasonable replacement for RoLo (and I was a much bigger fan of RoLo than most Knick fans but let's be real).
