He did definitely own the last 4 rounds, landing several hard shots and even hurting Taylor a little on two occasions.
Even when Hopkins won those rounds, there didn't seem to be a sense of urgency. He has nothing to cry about.

Me personally, I thought the 12th was pretty close.

Roy Jones was standing less than a foot away from him!

I know George Foreman couldn't stand Merchant and would openly argue with him on air. But I lost a little for Roy from not responding to that.

Also, did you see Oscar de La Hoya pretty much hanging from B-Hops nuts after the fight before the decision was announced? And Rasheed Wallace just as hood as ever. It looked like Sheed climbed the ropes up to the top turnbuckle to get into the ring.
I think Merchant is full of himself, but I have no problem with his bluntness. No reason to put the 32 ounce kid gloves on when your talking boxing. Besides, everything he said was true!

When was the last time Merchant offered any real insight into a boxing match. Atlas from ESPN offer more knowledge and insight in one segment than Merchant in the past 5 years. He's a wordsmith and say clever things but with little substance. It not bluntness I mind but not respecting the sport you cover.

Merchant eats because of these fighters and all fighters will lose eventually. You dont make jokes about it. Roy Jones and Oscar carried the sport of boxing for the last 5 years. Great fighters in an era where boxing is the step child in the world of sports. The way Merchant show respect is by making rude comments of their loses.

It would be the same way someone making comments about Jerry Rice and Mike Jordan when their skills started to fade away. The commentators those sports make observations about their skill level but still show respect.
