    Re: Contender rematches

Whats sad is that you watch a great fight like that, which it was, and see an ending like that. Boxing has always been entertaining to me but the judges ruin too many bouts for me to keep watching when I know something will go wrong.

Am I the only one thinking fix? Gomez beats a "non-contender" because we can't have him losing to a legit boxer right?? Not that I think he would necessarily lose, but they took away any chance of him losing by stopping the fight. Brinkley beat Bonsante because now he's got Peter's dad in his corner, its became the look what Contender can do for you match. And, after those bouts, you had to know Mora would win, they can't have the contender champ lose. I was looking forward to the second season, but there is no way I'll watch it. Maybe this is why NBC wasn't looking to pick it up. Anyone notice Sugar Ray was nowhere to be found? Maybe he wasn't interested in scripting finishes.

Fix?...no. Bad Judging?...yes. Hometown bias?...yes. My question is why would ESPN or Mark Burnett care if Mora lost especially when he would be losing to another Contender boxer? Also <Manfredo is the more marketable and better skilled boxer so if it was a fix it would have gone the other way.

I disagree.... Mora is the well spoken, doesn't talk like he's got a mouthful of peanuts, family guy... Don't call it bad judging. It's a made for TV show, with made for TV athletes. One bad fight, sure, bad judging.....three fights with questionable endings.....ESPN has you talking about the contender, and that's what they want. They have bought these guys. I'm not saying the boxers knew, no way, but ESPN knew. ESPN cares who won, because this is their show. Manfredo goes out gets a new trainer, comes back and shows you what he did without them. ESPN wanted to showcase their new show, making you believe the guys that won were legitimate. The three guys they tied their horse to, Mora (winner, well spoken, good representative for the show), Gomez (Everyone loves him), Brinkley (the goofy "Mr. Personality") won because that is what they want you to fall in love with. I find it hard to believe ESPN didn't have a say in what went on in their thrown-together "hey we just bought the rights to this" so called rematch. It was a joke.

Thats a conspiracy theory and one that doesnt follow the logic of Television execs. Yes people are talking about the Contender but its ALL NEGATIVE! You know how many people I've heard say they wont watch season 2 because of this.

The Gomez fight was a quick stoppage but his opponent was getting his *** kicked for 4 rounds so I dont know how you can say that was a part of the "fix".

Also season 1 is over so why the hell would ESPN care if you fall in love with any of those fighters. None of them are gonna fight in Season 2 so that doesnt make any sense,

Shoot if the fix was in why didnt ESPN let its announcers know or at least use announcers who were in on the fix. Also the judges were real and qualified judges (Julie Lederman just judged the last Erik Morales fight). It was bad judging cause primarily by hometown bias. Watch enough fights and you will see it happens all the time.
