    FNR:2 - FNR:3

I am not really a boxing fan, In fact I have probably watched only a total of 10 fights in 34 years.

However about 2 months ago while looking at EB's website, something just seemed interesting to me about FNR:2. And since I could get it for $16 for X-Box, I decided to try something new. After playing it (every chance I get since) since, I must say this game is AWESOME. Well except for the blisters I got on my thumbs.

So with how much I am enjoying/enjoyed FNR:2, I was wondering if I should get FNR:3 now. Once again for the X-box, as it will still be a bit before I upgrade to a 360.

Are there enough upgrades in FNR3 to warrant getting the game, or is it really just FNR2 with minor differences?

    Any input is appreciated.

    JA

I personally think that R3 is infinitely better that R2, particularly gameplay wise. In R2 the haymaker punch all but ruined the game in my opinion because it was too over powering and unbalanced. This year's version corrects that problem.

The jump from FNR2 to FNR3 on the 360 is huge and well worth the price. I don't know if I would buy Round 3 for the Xbox if you are enjoying Round 2. I guess it depends on how much the haymakers are annoying you in Round 2. I couldn't stand them and Round 3 is much better in that area. The haymakers exist but they're much slower and easier to parry, so the risk is much higher in using them.

I don't believe the graphics are any better (360 version is amazing, though) and the career mode is kind of a step back, IMO. It also has the same exact training minigames, so you don't even get anything new there. There are some boxers in Round 2 not in Round 3, like Rocky, but some new one in Round 3 that weren't in Round 2.

My point is, if you're not really unhappy with the haymakers in Round 2, I would hold off on Round 3 until you get a 360. If you find the haymakers a game-killer in Round (you didn't give that impression, so I'm guessing that's not the case), you might want to go with Round 3 simply because that is better now.

This is what I've been wondering as well. It just sounded like a newer update of Fight Night Round 2. But after hearing what you guys are saying, I might have to get Round 3. I've been contemplating it for awhile, but I just haven't made the purchase.

I was disappointed to see Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley not on the roster list for Round 3, but I like the addition of De La Hoya and Calvin Brock. So maybe I'll give it a shot.

born_bad, you said the career mode was a step back in Round 3? In what ways? The career mode is one of the main reasons I want the game, so I would like to hear your in-depth opinion on it if you have a little free time.

Thank you everyone who has posted so far, great input.

I would also like to hear some other input, and maybe some more on what I what I quoted above. As I am more interested in career mode (I am not as quick with eye/hand coord as I was when I was younger. So would probably get killed playing online, against all the "thumb jockeys" out there). To me a game is only as good as it's career/dynasty mode.

So when you posted what you did born_bad, do you mean that they totally took away from the career mode. Making it not worth playing?

I just picked up round 3 for 360, and granted I have only had 4 or 5 bouts in the career mode, it seems at least on the surface to be better. There is a popularity rating for your fighter now, and something about having a rival fighter... but the latter hasn't happened yet in my career. All I have done was win a few amateur fights.
