Wow. This one was not even close and totally unexpected. Tarver got it handed to him and I really wish I had put some money on Hopkins.

How is this a shock to anyone, Its been proven time and time again. That when a bigger fighter has to make weight in a considerable smaller weight class he loses. Losing the amount of weight that Tarver had to lose to make weight in the short amount of time was indicative of a losing fight. 2 months to lose 25 or more pounds will zap you of your electrolytes, strenght, power and many other properties. Losing weight, serves only one purpose in a short time frame and its all aestectic(sp?). You can lose weight to look good, but you will not fight well especially if your walk around weight is 25lbs more than you fight weight.

The amount of dehydration that takes place, followed by the attempt to rehydrate in a 36 hour time, is the ingredience for a loss.

Coming up in weight, is easier there are no adverse affects besides the supposedly loss in speed.

I cant wait to see the Hopkins vs Tarver fight. All that trash he was talking. I knew if it went to the cards, Hopkins would win.

Tarver is what I always thought he was, a "B Level" fighter.

I think the shock is that Tarver has traditional been in the light heavyweight class so you would think fighting in your own weight class wouldn't produce much of a disadvantage. Plus the fact that no one has moved upto the light heavyweight division and won a title fight (or something like that).

Oh and Tarver was favored something like 3 to 1, as the announcers said throughout the fight.

Many have said the fight could go either way with the whole weight loss/weight gain deal.

I think it's hilarious how Tarver was on Quite Frankly Wednesday (?) night and guaranteed he'd win by a knockout no later than the 6th round, and that he'd dominate the whole fight. I now see something wrong with that statement.

True, same thing happened to RJJ in their first fight and Tarver said it was "excuses." Tarver was always overrated to me and he caught RJJ at a bad time (I mean, even Glen Johnson beat him at that point). I'm happy for Hopkins and glad he shut Tarver up and taught him a lesson. HIs career is based off of one lucky punch like BHop said.

But losing all of that muscle is no joke on the body, especially once you are over 30.

This is more about B-Hop than it is Tarver....you could've put a complete and total 100% Antonio Tarver in that ring tonight, no weight loss, nothing and he still would've been demolished...it's that simple. Hopkins is just the better BOXER, period. One week away from Taylor/Wright, can't friggin' wait!

Thought this one would have been much closer. Not so sure i'll have my dad tape the free repeat next weekend.

Thanks to vince for the round by round update. Nice work.

                    One Hit Wonder?

Some are calling (including B.Hop before the fight)...a "One Hit Wonder" because his only significant wins were over RJJ (an aging one that)...Glen Johnson is tough and I like him, but he is not top comp.

do you guys agree with the one hit wonder thing?

Hopkins made him look like an amateur. Don't make any excuses for Tarver, he hates those. Hopkins moved up two weight classes after fighting the last 17+ years at 160. He was the stronger man in the ring and everyone already knew he was the better boxer.

This win solidifies his claim as fighter of the era. Way to go out on top B-Hop.

i was so surprised how big hopkins is, i'm so used to seeing him at 160. And he had some good power in his punches and surprising really active in the first couple rounds which not a Hopkin's usual.

Good strategy on a southpaw, he kept on hammering on Tarvers right eye and Hopkins kept moving left, and jus kept tapping tarver's left eye until it was shut. After that Tarvers left hand disapeared and couldn't do ****.

I really hope this its not hopkins last fight, he can take the light weight division and really work these fools. If it is, i'm gonna miss the guy a lot, he's great and one of the best of all time

i really thing this is it for Hopkins and I believe it should be. He leaves on a high note, made history, and did so in a strong fashion. he has nothing else to prove.

i hate to promote another site, but boxingscene.com had a nice interview with Hopkins. he spoke on how he preserves his body and getting in shape for fights is easy for him b/c he never is really out of shape. Tarver was bothered by the extreme weight loss, but the bad thing is that he cant even use that exscuse. its the same exscuse that RJJ was given, and Tarver downed him for it. so if he says anything now, folks will be like "whatever".
