    Larry Merchant in "Wikipedia"

I think Larry is a bit pompous, but that's a little rough at the end, huh?

I kinda like Merchant, sure he's a bit pompous and all but he's entertaining. That's pretty rough at the end of that wiki entry considering the fact that wiki is supposed to be as non-biased as possible.

Merchant's post fight commentary is widely regarded as classless and infantile. He has a tendency to babble incoherently.

Hahahaha! Priceless. Whether it's over-the-top or not he deserves to have things like this written about him.
He's an idiot who thinks he knows more about boxing that people who have actually boxed. What's funny about that is he'll tell them that too.

But as much as I dislike the man I'll always love him for yelling at James Toney's entourage after the Ruiz fight. Classic.

Merchant has been watching, describing and analysing boxing for probably 30 years. I wouldnt be surprised if he knew more than some guys who have actually boxed.

In some regards, yes. But I've seen him engage in debates with people who have boxed, trained and commentated on the sport longer than he has. And Larry always thinks he's right.

I don't think you need to have been a pro to become an expert but it certainly helps.
And boxing is a little different than the other sports. It's so emotional and mental that nobody really knows what's happening to a fighter unless you've been in the ring.
That's why I hate it when some people, who've never boxed, question a fighters heart. Unless you've been there, you have no right to judge a fighters testicular fortitude. I have respect for anyone that's stepped through the ropes. It takes a lot of balls just to do that.

True dat. I'm amazed they even have the go-nads to try and beat the living hell out of each other.

I watched some of the Gotti/Ward Highlights and Merchant was constantly making stupid comments about either Gotti or Ward and being corrected by Jim Lampley.
