The Man Mundine : coming for Winky Wright and co...

Anthony Mundine won his second world title a few days ago.

He's conquered everyone in Aus and the pacific...next stop the USA.

I've been at every fight of his except the past two...and this guy is now a world class boxer.

He destroyed Sam Soliman in the world title bout. The same Soliman who Winky Wright barely got past and couldn't hurt at all.

Mundines only real clear loss was Mikkel Kessler...who was simply too experienced and strong. Both areas Anthony has improved in dramatically since they fought. He'd beat Kessler if they fought again IMO.

Look out for him fellas. Quickest hands in boxing.

Agreed with everything you said except for the Kessler part. I have seen him fight numerous times and have some of his dvd's, and he is going to be tough to beat. Mundine also lost to the retired Ottke as well.

If I was Mudine's handlers, I would do everything in my power to get him to the states and fight as many American name opponents as possible. I would stay on the opposite side of the planet from Kessler.

Re the Ottke fight...you have to factor in that it was only Mundines 10th fight (having only changed sports from rugby league to boxing at age 26). Even then, despite being dramatically more inexperienced than Ottke and fighting in Germany, Mundine was well ahead on points...

He got knocked out late through fatigue and inexperience. Both non factors now.

Re Kessler. I was pretty close to ringside for that fight and Kessler is an intimidating spectacle physically. He's f-ing massive...got no idea how he makes the weight as he's a beast in that division.

However, he never really even got close to landing a punch on Mundine all fight. He basically just shoved him around...but he couldn't land a thing.

Mundine was slightly intimidated...and back then Mundine didn't really have a KO punch.

Training under Roy Jones SNR, he's added some serious KO ability. If he fought Kessler again, he'd be a chance IMO.

I doubt Kessler could hit him...but Mundine would be quick enough to hit Kessler. If he landed some of the punches he hit Soliman with, he'd hurt Kessler.

Soliman is one of the toughest SOB's in boxing. He'd never hit the deck in over 30 fights. Mundine put him down four times the other night. Four times.

I understand the accomplishment in dawging Sam, and I am not discrediting Mudine, I am simply saying he is damn good but I am never going to go against Kessler until something changes.

                Stupid move on his part.

Unfortunately, it may end his career. He was an amazingly quick fighter and certainly was one of the more exciting fighters I've seen of late.

Mouthes are dirty. If you bite yourself and draw blood, it's entirely possible to get an infection. Licking a contact lens and putting it back into one's eye seems moronic to me, but I guess some people just aren't aware of the risk involved in such an act.

Yeah, it's not looking good for Choc.

The main thing is that his eye is okay. I used to work with a member of his family and she e-mailed me yesterday to say that they are genuinely worried.

Even if his eye is okay...it's likely he won't be able to train anywhere near 100%, no sparring etc.

                  Massive setback.

Released from hospital ... boxer Anthony Mundine has been fighting an eye infection caused by cleaning a contact lens in his mouth. / The Daily Telegraph
ANTHONY Mundine is out of hospital and has vowed to return to the boxing ring as he continues to fight a serious eye infection.
The WBA super middleweight world champion has spent the past 10 days in hospital after picking up the infection cleaning a contact lens with his mouth and putting it back in his eye during a recent trip to New Zealand.
His doctor still believes Mundine will lose some vision in his left eye, which would put his professional boxing career in major doubt, but the 32-year-old is determined to continue to fight.
"I've fought adversity all my life. I've fought injustice, I've fought the best fighters in the world, but this is my hardest fight," Mundine told the Nine Network.
"The vision is still blurry. I can see things but it's blurry.
"(But) I ain't done yet. Believe in me and pray for me and I will be back, God willing."
Mundine regained the WBA world title after knocking out compatriot Sam Soliman in Sydney in March and defended it against Argentine Pablo Daniel Zamora Nievas on the Gold Coast two months ago.
It was believed Mundine was in line to fight the winner of this year's unification bout between unbeaten super middleweights Mikkel Kessler and Joe Calzaghe, to be held in November.
But Dr John Males said it will be some time before the full extent of the damage to Mundine's eye is known.
He has been taking antibiotics to fight the infection.
"I still think it's likely he'll lose a degree of vision in the eye," Dr Males said.
"But it's very hard to say and we won't really know for weeks or possibly even months."
Mundine, who struggled while in hospital with his inability to train and remain active, wants to resume training as soon as possible.
"I might hit the bag tonight, just lightly and see how I feel," he said.
