LOL I WISH! The game is nothing like that man. Believe me I wish it was...I have tried using real boxing tactics....doesnt matter. It is a slugfest so far. Jab does nothing, right does nothing...only thing that works is side step hook....which is just stupid.

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
Reading through this entire thread, I have the same question as Money. I would like to know if the CPU's stamina also decreases after throwing so many punches in general (not just haymakers or specialties). If the CPU doesn't tire, we are in for a long fight.
Freeze, someone mentions that over at the 2KForums you said that a punch nailed you which flung you 1/2 way across the ring. Was this early in the fight or later rounds?
early in the fight. doesn't matter when you get hit with them though...it will do it 8-10 times a round. defense is almost impossible. you can't get away bc foot movement is so slow. you have to double tap back and even that doesn't work sometimes.Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
This one guy posted this over at 2Kforums. It sounds to me like there is a learning curve.
"Whats up guys? i read this board everyday but i decided to create a username so i can give my input on the game. I picked the game up from GameStop an hour ago and to be honest, the graphics are waaay better than those preview videos.
If you just jump into an exhibition, you will get killed and it will seem like a slug fest because you dont know what your doing lol. I fought twice, got whooped so i started a career mode to get the tutorial of how to do things. The career mode is LOVELY!! I learned how to do more in the ring so now the game is playing a WHOLE lot better if you ask me. The game doesnt suck, i recommend my friends to buy the game.
The game is NOT fight night so I never compare it to Fight Night, the game is just as exciting to me as when i first had Fight Night Round 3, except when i started a career in fight night, i seen how limited the story mode was and the rankings so i felt that EA left out one of the most essential things to a CAREER mode.
My Opinion: The game is good, looks good and has smooth mechanics, forces you to use SKILLS to create a good experience and you can custimize your character to death lol. I wont be on for a while but ask me questions if you want."
This is from an OS member that I have seen around:
I'm liking the game alot. It definitely is leaning sim than anything I've played to date. I see the vision of the developers in this game and it was a really good vision. You want to keep a pace with your fight. Going out there and just wailing on your opponent with no kind of gameplan will only get you a trip to the canvas as I've done so far. I probably would have passed on all the camera movements with big punches but to be honest they probably got that right too. I don't see myself looking at my "health bar" too much as I'm making sure I don't get caught across the temple. Defense is definitely tough in this game. No crazy leaning back I've see so far. My advise is BUY IT. It's a pretty good game. When I get past round 2 I'll let you guys know even more (as I haven't gotten past the 2nd round yet).Last edited by CaptainZombie; 06-10-2008, 01:18 PM.Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
Have you gotten a chance to do any of the Story Mode? Maybe that can save this game.
Also, did you read "Ray Pattersons" review* on the 2K Forums.
Would you say they're accurate.
* For those that haven't seen them, here it is:
First off, I want people to understand that I gave the game a chance. This is basically my second post. I felt obligated to warn people on how bad it is.
I knew the game wasn't going to be amazing to begin with after watching the gameplay about a month ago. I decided that since Fight Night wasn't going to come out until early next year, I'd give it a shot. I was going to rent it because the gameplay looked bad, but then figured I'd want to play it for at least a few months.
I basically went out and purchased the Worst Boxing Game I've ever played. On a SERIOUS critique. Some of you may not know who I am, but I'm hoping most of you do, and know I wouldn't give a bogus review. Fight Night Round 2 is still the ring Sim lleader (minus the haymakers)
The punches are basically one at a time. You cant really even throw a one, two punch properly. I don't think anybody involved with boxing helped create this game to be quite honest with you. The mechanics are horrible, moving around the ring is downright atrocious. When moving in the ring, the fighter takes baby steps and you have to double tap in order to get out of a slugfest (which is what 2k probably thinks boxing is). I realized that you hold down the LB and hit a button in order to throw an adrenaline punch. Which is supposed to be a power punch, and in many cases unblockable I guess.
You can block up and down, and in many cases the opponents punches will land if your still blocking. Bobbing and weaving doesn't really work too well and overall defense is not really available. It's basically made to be a slugfest. Everytime a punch lands the fighter gets jarred and falls all around the ring like he's badly hurt.
RENT THE GAME BEFORE YOU BUY IT. YOU WILL THANK ME.
On a serious note, when I took a look at the guy who was doing the interviews and showing the game play for Prizefighter, I thought to myself.. what a clown. Look at this guy. And you can easily associate the way the guy looks and the way the game looks.
I took a look at the guy they were interviewing for Fight Night Round 4 (if you haven't seen it, Winky is in the video.. they're talking about Lennox Lewis and Tyson being in the game.. etc.. etc..) and the guys appearance looked very acceptable. He spoke very confident and professional, and when I heard the term "Physics" coming back into play that we haven't seen since 2004, I knew right then the game is going to be amazing.
Always listen to your gut feeling I guess... even if its just 60 dollars you're wasting on a game.
Punches look downright horrible.. Ring movement is hideous. I'm really wondering how the 2K team actually thought this game would be appealing to boxing fans? At one time during one of the bouts, Jim Lampley was commentating, and Emmanuel Steward said the same thing about 3 times in a row. Just an overall dissapointing/poorly put together game.
Fight Night Round 3 looks like the greatest game created next to this. And that's including all of the flaws and problems with stamina/parrying/cheesy ways to win in that game.Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
Ray is 100% accurate with what i have played so far.
I have not played the career mode and yes I am hoping that saves it. I am very very doubtful though.
I have tried every strategy so far and even just tried moving away and defending barely even throwing punches just to see what happens. eventually though the slow footspeed and CPU haymakers kick in and you get trapped...then you either have to slug or try to run...try to run and again...slow footspeed...hit with 10 punches, special punches, sidestep punches....1/2 health gone.Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
The animation on this game isn't so great nor is the collision detection. I'm playing through career mode and you do get the computer throwing a lot of bombs...but they're pretty easy to counter. In the early career fights, the computer will definitely burn themselves out and slow down. I've not found it difficult thus far to counter these haymakers and knock the computer fighter around.....
This game is definitely not Fight Night....
...it's far from perfect but I think there's some potential here. The career mode seems like it's going to be pretty cool...how much you're able to train is based on the time between fights, which I think is an overdue touch.Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
Here is one more impression that seems positive.
"My impressions:
First of all this game has a pretty nice learning curve. My first match was between Pavlik vs Chavez Jr. (JC Jr. comes out to Run DMC "Its Tricky", hoping for a mariachi band). JC Jr. kicked my but bad. Fool was timing me coming in, catching me from the outside, and the referee mercifully stopped the fight in the second round. I found success with my jabs and straights, but JC Jr. figured it out quick.
I had a match with Sam Peters and a generic I believe in Ramone Sanchez I believe. This match went a bit further, but the A.I. is tough. I got beat down in four.
Sadly after 3 matches I learned the "Loser" achievement, lol.
I am having a tough time learning the games movement, but I am getting better. I am not judging this game until I get the hang of it and learn how to play.
Fatigue and punch output must be watched at all times. I like the punches flow and button setup. There are also 3 other button configurations to choose from. I would also recommend that you go into gameplay options and change the number of rounds to 10 or 12.
Let me repeat this again the A.I. has been tough. I will post more this evening."Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
Here's another positive review, compliments of totalownership via the 2K forums:
I found the leaning the hard way, thanks anyway Ron. lol. Ok footwork was asked. I'll tell you this, since I suck anyway the footwork was on point. I tried getting away when hurt and was barely getting separation but he'd be right back on me so I'd say the footwork , in that regards is on point. Moving around the boxer isn't particularly difficult but you have to be wise with every and I mean EVERY decision you make. I had my opponent hurt some and thought I could go in and do a fight night on him and the next thing I know I'm taping A to get off the mat. lol
My nephew is here today and he's a BIG fight night guy and just from looking the first thing he says , "Uncle you have to use strategy, this isn't like fight night I can tell".
This game definitely leans towards sim more than anything else. I'm starting to get my ring legs and put together something but getting the "Loser" achievement isn't exactly making me look good here. Not disappointed at all and I haven't even started career. Just some exhibition and working on the heavy bag (which I got an achievement in that too, at least I'm good for something)Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
Foot speed is a little slow. Really slow with the Heavy Weights which is normal I would think. You definitely can't just punch buttons and win. You have to block punches and dodge them (L Trigger and move the L stick to move dodge while standing still), use the Clinch also when necessary (not just when you are about to go down). Stilll need to play more before I decide anything. But I can see why button mashers would not like this game.My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
Going to go pick it up. Been reading all the complaints and reviews of the game(on 2kforums) and I think that a big learning curve is part of the game. I hope that this game shines in versus mode(online or offline) against a human player. FNR3 was acceptable and one of the few boxing games that I could take my hay maker fest friends 10+ rounds and end them once I drained them out. I thought that by using the Rocky engine it wouldn't have been that hard to fix and convert that game into a boxing fans game. See ya online or in leagues if I dont sell it in a month or 2....actually I don't sell my games so i'll just either put it in a case or give it to one of my friends.Sirius "U"
