My say on people wanting matches to go the distance
I know people are keep asking for fights to go the distance, but it's kind of crazy. It's up to them and the way they box the computer....the CPU boxer doesn't have emotions or instinct to survive...hmmm or do it. If you are teeing off on boxer will he clinch, run, or try to out punch you. You can't ask for a fight to go the distance if both boxers doesn't make that scenerio.Poe is an advocate for realistic boxing videogames.Tags: None -

Re: My say on people wanting matches to go the distance
You said it...in real life. I'm talking about people who play Fight Night and go for broke and knock's a boxer out and it doesn't go the distant. Certain things must be implemnted to make boxers react like a real boxer to try to go the distance.Poe is an advocate for realistic boxing videogames.Comment

Re: My say on people wanting matches to go the distance
I see what your saying. Most of my Fight Night bouts go about 10 rounds. Depends on on how you go about the match. I've noticed that in many next gen sports titles (a house rules kind of thing). Until they get it right, you gotta play with limitations. The football titles, I really cant destroy the A.I. even if I wanted to, but Prizefighter and Fightnight, if I feel like it, I can go all out and crush the A.I. I like to keep it as sim as possible, so I'm usually stickin and movin vice just attacking the A.I to destroy them. I get pretty realistic matches on both titles actually, except for the A.I constantly getting up in prizefighter.Comment

Re: My say on people wanting matches to go the distance
KO's should come fairly easy to power punchers the first 15-20 fights of their career. But once you start fighting top 10 contenders, and especially champions, stoppages should be well earned, not expected.
Look at Jermain Taylor's career. He hasn't stopped an opponent in 3.5 years. Does that mean he lacks power. Not necessarily. It's more of a case that he's been fighting much smarter opponents who won't walk into one his right-hands so easily.
I wrote my wishlist at consolesports.net and this is one area that I wanted addressed.
In the first few fights of your career you should be going after guys with a limited tool set. Some guys might only have power, others might have speed, while others might not have anything but a strong chin and stamina. But as you move up the ladder you'll begin to face guys that have a number of these skills. So suddenly you're facing guys who have a chin, heart and a strong punch.
The next night you may face a guy who's a terrific boxer with a long reach and lots of gas in the tank.
Pretty soon you're going after the belt and the champion might have every tool imaginable or an abundance of them.
Intelligence will also come into play. While the early tomato-cans you dusted off might not have a clue of when to clinch, run, or battle back, upper echelon fighters will know exactly what to do in certain situations.
Not only that, but it would be nice to have AI that actually knows your weaknesses as well. What if your fighter lacks endurance? A good fighter will take you into deep waters.
Perhaps you only possess a strong left-hook and no right-hand? The CPU will then make a point to circle to your right to stay away from your strongest punch.
These are the kinds of things that I believe can be programmed. I can barely make a sandwich but I'm sure there are talented people on EA's staff that can manage to pull stuff like this off.Comment

Which is precisely where good AI comes into play.

Re: My say on people wanting matches to go the distance
Its funny but im playing boxers road 2 right now and i feel that the game actually might've implemented this type of AI. Obviously not at the exact level that ur post states but close to the variety and diversity of skillsets each boxer can have. The game has to have over 2000 boxers in it. I've plowed thru dudes and gotten KO"d in the first round. I like to feel like im not the baddest man on earth but can somehow through adversity become the best. Easy gimmicky AI does not provide that feeling.
It's an old game but it's certainly still the best boxing game on the market.Comment

Re: My say on people wanting matches to go the distance
These aspects need to be picked up in other games. We need manual aspects to these games. Prizefighter doesn't really have variations in lateral motion, which is really the most important thing in boxing. even the sway, although tied into blocking nicely, doesn't realistically account for collision detection. The PS2 version of Hajime No Ippo 2 : Victorious Road is more 'next-gen' than any boxing game on next-gen systems.Comment

boxers road 2 has great boxing mechanics. The only thing missing is clinching and block while swaying. add that and u'd hava a perfect boxing game."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment
