    Boxing Discussion

I wanted to throw some topics around and have some discussion around them.

First, is Margarito ducking Paul Williams? Its a similar scenario in that Margarito was offered miuch more to take on Williams but opted for less money and no title against Mosley. At least Floyd had a $25M fight in the works against DLH, so I can understand him not giving Margarito a shot at the time, but......

No. The Mosley and Cotto rematch are worth much more than a fight against Williams right now. The Williams fight will always be there because the story line of Margarito avenging his most recent loss will be there and waiting until late 09/ early 10 will help with Williams' notarity especially if he keeps beating top fighters.

I really don't know. There may be some self doubt issues going on. I really don't think money was the issue here, because if Williams loses, the fight is probably gone. Ducking seems like a strong word for this though.

I think for Margaritto, this is a missed opportunity. While Cotto may present a good financial opporutnity, the Mosley fight is risky. There are many that feel Mosley may have won against Cotto and Margarito's move forward style may be enough to keep Mosley in the fight. Mosley likes to bang and is more accomstomed too it. Now I would not pick him in this fight but he does have more than a decent shot to win it.

I see your point but I still feel the Williams fight will be there win or lose. Margarito v. Williams isnt a PPV fight so there is no real money in that yet. Margarito negotiated his way into a big payday in the Mosley fight and even if he loses to Mosley....a Margarito/Cotto rematch will be a PPV moneymaker after the first fight. Even if Williams loses while waiting for Margarito, there will still be demand for the fight because Williams beat Margarito. If Williams keeps winning the demand for the fight willl grow and the fight could become a PPV fight.

Currently, the two biggest ducks in boxing are Margo-Williams and Sturm-Abraham. Of course Margo is ducking Williams. And you no what, I don't blame him and it doesn't really matter. The chances of beating Williams are slim, the money slim, etc...

Margo can make more money doing his own thing, Williams most likely won't lose for a good bit, and this fight can potentially take place in the future some time if at all.
