Wlad doesn't need an uppercut because everyone's scared to get within 2 feet of him. Which is right up his alley because his long jab, right-hand and sharp left-hook are excellent from that range.
Sadly, the only real fight for Wlad is Vitali. And it'll never happen.
All of the other 'contenders' are so far below their talent level it's laughable.
In many of the rounds this afternoon, I would have give Rahman an 8 despite not being knocked down in most of them. His strategy was truly pathetic and I hope he never gets another shot at a title - which we know he will.
The thing with guys like Rahman is, if you're going to beat Wlad or Vitali - especially Wlad - you have to go right at him. You have to be willing to suffer a major KO, because if you don't smother him he'll pick you apart from long range. It's like trying to beat a sniper with a six-shooter. If you're a gunslinger, you have to get close and let loose.
Eventually one of the KO brothers is going to expose Valuev and I think that's the only fight worth watching at this point, and it's only because of the freakish size of the fighters that will be entering the ring.
The Heavyweight division is truly, truly pathetic. It makes me long for the 90's when we had a number of decent to very good fighters that seemed willing to let their hands go.
P.S. On a comical note, I remember when Rocky IV came out a number of black comedians made fun of it, not for the ridiculousness of the plot, but because the heavyweight championship was being fought between two white dudes. Fast-forward 20 years and here we are.
