Do you think the champ of each division should be like a Big Boss?
In Fight Night Round 4 do you think the champ in every division should be like a Big Boss or should they keep fighting to hold on to thier belt? I think it should be as realistic as possible. Who ever is champ like Pacquiao ,the klitschos or somebody else they should keep fighting and defending their belt, trying to get others or have non title bouts. I don't think a fighter should be stuck at the top of a division, they have to earn it. In Fight Night 2004 fighters kept fight amongst each other. What do you guys think?Last edited by SHAKYR; 12-16-2008, 02:39 PM.Poe is an advocate for realistic boxing videogames.Tags: None -

I assume you're talking about fn4...
not only do I think they should have to have fights, but so should everyone in the division - they should also have organic or varying performance. The champ should be able to lose and win it back while you're working up the ranks.
I hope boxer skills are more fluid and organic. If I'm a pro boxer, my power might not get significantly better over my career, nor my handspeed.
Another thing is you shouldn't automatically get tired in the later rounds...some guys can throw just as many punches at the same power as the 1st round, and other guys may throw just as fast, but their guard comes down slightly.
I'm going to stop, because there is just so many things that need to change imo. I don't think they will though, and to be fair, some things they can't change at the moment.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear. -

Exactly, with as much interaction EA has had here recently we need to give them all the ideas we can. Hopefully someone is watching the boxing forum as closely as they are on Madden and Live.Comment

Re: Do you think the champ of each division should be like a Big Boss?
I think there should not be a set champion at the top of each division because that is very linear to me. I believe the first Fight Night (probably rounds 2 and 3 as well) did this thing where real life fighters would start their careers around the same time as you, or possibly even a year or two prior to you, so they would be higher up in the ranks to begin with and you would fight them in number one contenders and championship matches. And I think this would work (just don't make it like Round 3 where you beat up your rival like 7 times in your career).
To further answer this question, I think a huge reason why the answer should be "no" is because there should be multiple champions. Whether you like it or not, the reality of boxing is that there are 3 or 4 major organizations with title belts. I think having multiple organizations in FN4 would add a whole new dynamic to career mode with eliminator bouts, mandatory title challengers, and so forth. Even if these organizations are created, it would be so cool.I wish everyone talked like Larry Merchant.Comment

You didn't read what I had written correctly. I totally agree with you, but the champ or champs should be fighting other fighters trying to hold on to thier belt/belts instead of being a set champ for me to meet going through a career. His stay at the top shouldn't be set. He shouldn't have to fight as much as I do,but he should fight.Poe is an advocate for realistic boxing videogames.Comment

Anyone in the top 10 should be of a level that can challenge the champ and give you one hell of a fight. The top 10, not just champs should be changing year regularly. What about a 'Ring Magazine' style update like they used to have in NCAA Football with Sportts Illiustrated. Maybe the champ has had a successful defense, jumped weight classes or two guys in teh top 10 are figthing soon. Include that in the presentation.Follow me on Twitter - http://twitter.com/complex219Comment

It would be cool if FN4 used ESPN Friday Night fights and Brian Kenny to deliver an update show, Ala NFL 2K5 and sportscenter with Chris Berman. But there was someone over in the Madden forum that wrote a letter to Peter Moore outlining his concern with the production of Madden. One of the things he brought up was the ESPN integration and Moore responded with a brief response about the complexities of contracts and legalities, so I dunno how likely that would be.Poe is an advocate for realistic boxing videogames.Comment

I understand why boxing games have been the same for years, but for me, I'm tired of having a guy start out with 25/100 for every skill and with each win, or depending on how well you do the training mini-games, you add to each attribute.
Did PBF enter his first match with no handspeed? Did an 18-year old Tyson have low power in his first bout? No.
Sure, pro's can learn new tricks or increase certain attributes to a degree, but for the most part, a guy can't increase his punching power just from having more fights. And a slow boxer isn't going to develop lightning quick handspeed from working the speed bag.
So what I'd like to see is a random generator, OR, let the user dictate how good or bad his created boxer will be from the start.
Some people might think "I paid $60 for this game! I should be a monster if I want to!". And they'd be right.
What should make the game difficult is the AI. In your first fight, you will fight a tomato can who has one or two decent skills (eg. speed, chin). As you move up the ladder, you'll face better fighters, with better strategies and skills.
That's how you keep a game fresh.
Some might think "That's boring or cheating. Everyone will be a Prime Mike Tyson". Who cares? Let them.
But that's where things like good management and picking the right fights comes into play. Maybe you think you're ready to take on the #17 ranked fighter in your division. But then you find out he's too slick or too powerful to take.
Sure, once you've played the game 100 times, you could probably create a monster and roll through the game because you've got tonnes of experience and know how to beat every style. But if someone gets bored of this, that's where the random generator comes into play.
Someone might be a master of the game, but how fun would it be to randomly create a fighter who is weak in several categories and try to make them a champion?
That's what I did when I briefly had the Title Fight simulator.
You could still have a 'regular' mode where you take a fighter and give him "X" amount of points and climb up the ladder adding points along the way.
But for me, I'd love to start with a beast (or crappy fighter) knowing that certain attributes like power, speed, chin, jab, etc barely move.
Saying all of that, certain attributes or skills could be attained by hiring different trainers or training differently. Skills like endurance, defense, developing various punches could all be increased, or decreased depending on the above.
Moving up in weight sometimes decreases a fighters power. Moving down in weight sometimes decreases speed. These kinds of factors need to be brought in.
I'm not expecting this for FNRd4. My impression is that this game is almost a 'grounds-up' approach.
But for Rd5 and beyond, I would love some of these things implemented.
I'm simply sick and tired of seeing the same 'win points and grow' approach to every stinking boxing game ever made.
In Madden, NHL09 or The Show, you draft and develop players of varying skills. Not every QB starts out as a 60ov and develops into Joe Montana. Why can't boxing be the same?Last edited by Money99; 12-17-2008, 03:10 PM.Comment

Re: Do you think the champ of each division should be like a Big Boss?
I believe Money has posted these thoughts before and I still like them. Its kinda like the 'parents thing' in Madden. I mean a boxer can be a 99 per se but that does not mean he super strong, fast, with great stamina etc. I would say Floyd is a top fighter but he isnt the strongest and fastest. Pac Man is a top guy but hasnt mastered every punch in the game.
There should be a number of attributtes to master so there isnt a guy that is top in every category every made.Follow me on Twitter - http://twitter.com/complex219Comment
