    The Contender

Anyone else still watch this? I feel like I'm the only person following this series.

Anyways, the finale is on tonight at 9 PM EST on Versus.

Unfortunately, I don't get this program on my Canadian satellite. I wish I did, because I heard this years was one of the best.

How's Tony Danza as a host?

He's actually pretty good. He has quite a bit of boxing knowledge. Earlier in the season he actually sparred one of the contenders and held his own. I think he said he used to box when he was a kid.

Troy Ross by TKO in the 4th round over Hino. I think the ref stepped in a little early.

i loved the show, but i'm in the same boat as money. A few weeks ago I actually saw contender 'asia' or something and it was similar only muay thai and it was good too! haven't been able to find either on satelite though.

I don't know man. I understand what you mean but when you got your back turned like that and the other guy is throwing and landing at will things can get REALLY ugly. If you're going to turn at least face the ref so you can show him you're alive. But 99.9% of the time you really don't have a choice of which way you turn. You're just trying to keep your head attached to your body.

                Funny 'Contender' story.

When I was at the FN Community Event I asked Sergio Mora what it was like being on the contender and having to deal with a completely different training schedule than what a boxer is used to.

He said that it worked out great for him because he doesn't depend on anyone to succeed. Of course, what he meant was, he didn't need all the comforts of his regular camp; such as his gym, trainer, favorite heavy bag etc.

He told us that Peter Manfredo did nothing but whine the whole time. He missed his dad (his trainer), his gym, his bed, etc, etc etc. Mora knew he could dominate Manfredo because he was mentally weak. Manfredo needed familiarity to remain composed and mentally focused.
I get the feeling you could drop Mora in a quarry or jungle and he'd find a way to train for a fight.
