Brizzo comments on people complaining about CPU AI

Brizzo from his FIGHTNIGHTFOUR Youtube site....

Understand that shows like this are made for casual fans, they want footage of the most exciting, over the top stuff for the show. If they are going to show a knockdown, it will be the most over the top one. There are body shot KDs where the guy just grabs his side and falls down. All of that footage is captured by two users,? probably marketing assistants, playing the game. It's not the AI. So when you see a guy like Pernell Whitaker slugging it out, its because he's being controlled by a user that isn't fighting like Pernell Whitaker.

It doesn't make for good 3 and 7 second clips on a show like GameTrailers to show scenes from a tactical, strategic boxing match.
Poe is an advocate for realistic boxing videogames.

There's no use in trying to defend what's been shown so far. It's like this for every sports game. In all clips shown on non-sports sites, the game will feature the most over-the-top elements to sell to the casual fan.
People need to calm down and realize that there were people at the Community event who love boxing and saw how realistic this game can be.
Just wait till the demo drops, then start passing some judgment.

The real problem is the developers have little to no input on how this game is marketed.
If it were up to Brian or Mike I'm sure they'd put a full video of a 12 round chess match featuring few, or no knockdowns. But would that suck in Johnny Fratboy who hasn't watched a fight since Tyson's KO of Spinks? Probably not.

Well said Money. Also keep in mind that the hardcore/Sim gamers are usually the smartest consumers and are actually gonna read reviews and do some research before buying any game, while the arcade gamers will make snap judgments based on the back of the box, or the commercial. I for one have complete confidence on the new FN team, and Im really looking forward to playing a sim style game.

I understand what he's saying but the counterargument is that you shouldnt even be able to stickmash like that if you wanted to. The game should force some sort of realistic play.

I completely understand but If I can add, they should focus on both sides of the fence. There are guys that are strategic in nature and like counter punching, slipping and the subtle parts of boxing. Brizzo should do a small piece on that as well to show off that side. This can be done in an nice way that it will show off the small subtle parts of the game as well as over the top action too. Just takes a bit of effort, not saying they arent working hard already.

I only say this to say that this will be some guys first look at boxing on any level and with the right mix of marketing it can show both aspects. Now I dont expect a 50/50 split of action and strategy but a 80/20 split with the emphasis mainly on action with sprinkles of strategy would be great. But from a marketing standpoint they have to get the biggest bang for their buck.

            +1

If people are going to stick mash like that then their Punch animation should be much slower....

with your stamina that drained, slower one twos should still be possible, but a 3rd punch shouldn't follow until well after the 1st two.

            Im thinking like .75-1.5 secs

Remember when the dude from Prizefighter showed up in flip flops for the gamespot video interview and then proceeded to button mash and make the game look silly while the lead programmer was in the backgrounded crying because he wasn't doing any of the footwork or blocking or anything else. It was classic.

Then for the next 3 days the 2k boards blew up, the game was released, sold about 40,000 copies allegedly(It might have been as low as 15,000)and went the way of the Dodo bird into quick extinction.

You have to be careful what you show. You can really make a game look ridiculous if its left in the hands of a flip flopper.

I disagree. because just like in UFC someone can button mash away and make the game look ********, but the way the game forces realistic play is when that button mash noob goes up against someone that implements boxing strategy and he gets his *** rocked.

If infact thats what will happen. Too many games a guy grabs a top notch dude/team/player whatever and can button mash to victory.

Man sheeeeit, I like to play sim style. Now in Street Fighter 4, a button masher can take me out swiftly. Boxing games on the other hand. I destroy button mashers, true story! I did it in FN3, and I've did that with previous FNs sitting there with a friend who just presses buttons. Hell, I've even played sim style with ring king, sticking and moving and destroyed arcade heads. Its all in how you play it baby. When you see me, dont come out all wild, cause it aint gonna work, lol.

Just to let everyone know, in one of my many epic battles with Wepeeler, many times I would go straight at him and just try to 'stick-mash'.
He picked me apart with great blocking and countering.

You have to be strategic in pulling off wins in this game. Stick-mashers will get owned by anyone with any sort of skill online. Trust me.

                          No problem.
When I finally got my head out of my arse, I began to stick and move and tie him up when I was getting the worst of an in-close encounter.
This prolonged the fights and made them much more competitive.

Did they have their sig punches, & did you try to pull 'em off? i'd say you could prolly counter alot quicker when you try to sig punch ehh?

                            OR

do you plead the 5th here?

Yeah, I tried the sig punches at times. More just to see how they look. I don't think they were really specialized on the build that we were building on so I can't comment with 100% accuracy.
