This game does not look realistic or sim at all from a-far. Im thinking of renting it is it worth it? Can you move around the ring at will or does it feel like your stuck in quicksand?

Movement Too Slow
I have watched plenty of youtube entries of this game and it all looks the same. Just come to the middle of the ring and slug it out. Is it that everyone plays that way no matter who they pick, or is it that the footspeed is too slow so that's the only option you have?

Re: Movement Too Slow
Turn up the boxer speed slider. I thought that the demo was too slow, so when I got the game, I changed the camera to wide view and bumped up the boxer speed a couple notches, the footspeed and movement around the ring is beautiful to see now IMO. -
Re: Movement Too Slow
You can have some great fights if the two people fighting are sim. If you know a bunch of friends that have the game and they play sim it will be fun to play.
The game is sluggish. There is a slider for speed but i do not think the sliders work for online.
If your type that likes to play random people or ranked matches so far this part of the game has been a disaster because of people taking legend fighters and stick mashing.Comment

Re: Movement Too Slow
Sorry but I have to respectfully disagree. This game is all about matchups. The game could feel slow if you've got two heavyweights in there, but fight as Gamboa and then tell me if the game is slow. He's lightning fast, great foot speed, and his bob-weave game is a blur. This is without touching the sliders. However, if fighting against Barrera, Gamboa gets trapped in a box. Barrera comes at you, cuts you off, and blocks everything. If you watched a video of two guys using Barrera it would look sluggish, and the fight itself would look like a slugfest. But get Gamboa and another speed demon in there, and the game would look fluid.Comment

Re: Movement Too Slow
I will have to go rent this game, but from what I have seen this game is far from sim. The slow foot speed makes it a slugfest and as stated the guys spamming jabs. The Total Control Punching doesn't make anyone become more skilled they just throw the punch that is easier to throw over and over again (spamming). I will wait to give an official view but from what I have seen it's really not even worth renting.Comment

Re: Movement Too Slow
I've had a total of 25 player or ranked matches online and "jab spamming" has not been a problem. Also the concern about the game favoring inside fighters...well I don't see it. The jab and particularly the cross are very effective in keeping guys like Tyson and Lamotta at bay. Haymakers are very well balanced and fatigue is a huge factor.
The movement in the game is actually pretty good. It was my #1 major concern from playing the demo the first few times but after getting acquainted with the controls and the retail version tweaked the step back move slightly so... Right now i love the game A LOT.
If you see a slugfest its because the boxers involved wanted to slug it out.Last edited by Vast; 06-25-2009, 09:29 PM."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

Re: Movement Too Slow
EA can't control how people play the game online. Call out the players for not being sim if you must, but it's not the game's fault. Don't want a slugfest? Then don't fight that way. And if you're sim and face somebody online that fights like that, then it's on you for not being good enough to strategize a win for predictable attacks.Comment

Re: Movement Too Slow
Co-sign the reponses. This game can be sim if guys play it that way. Upping the speed, and "wide" cam angle seems to be the preferred adjustments.
Rent it and try it...you'll love it.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

exactly , it's as sim as you play it - you want to go in there swinging for the fences you'd better knock the guy out because if your're fighting a decent player , you'll tire out and get KO'd yourself. Any game can have the sim element taken out by reckless play style - the good news is , this year it's punishable IMO
and btw for the movement - I agree that the foot work could look a bit better , but I don't think the speed is too far off - I do however have the slider practically maxed outComment

Re: Movement Too Slow
BTW, speaking of matchups, can any of you figure out how to use Tyson? I keep trying to use him vs. the CPU and always lose. It seems that he, of course, has great power, but exactly NO stamina. All of his punches tire him out. I've tried multiple strategies, including just being patient: waiting, waiting, waiting, bobbing and weaving, and then countering with hooks and uppercuts. That seems to be the most successful way, but if I don't get a knockout, he's exhausted by the middle rounds. And forget about sticking and moving and conserving energy. He just can't do that - too slow. I suppose I could just wait all fight, and throw one or two punches at a time, the thought being to keep his stamina high so that when you do connect, it would knock the guy out. But in doing that, you end up giving away rounds to anyone who can box. Anyobdy have a successful strategy with Tyson (not against him)?Comment

Re: Movement Too Slow
When I rent Im gonna want you guys gamertags to see just how good you are, since you know how to stop jab spammers.Comment

Re: Movement Too Slow
Where is it that you've heard about this "jab spamming" and that it's a problem? Are you getting this from the videos? I ask because you mentioned that you didn't know if the game was even worth renting so it can't be from hands-on experience.
You've got posts from guys that have played double digit bouts online, but you still doubt their word. I'm just wondering where you're gathering your info from.A negative mind will never give you a positive life.
