Stick mashers vs. button mashers
Whats the difference really?? Only difference i see is the stick mashers will have to buy new controllers by the ed of the year. All those ppl who complained how the button config being in the game would ruin online play cuz of "button mashers"?!? What a joke, its the same thing with stick mashers, so EA plz give use button configs! It just boggles my mind still. I'll keep an eye on this forum, and if there's a patch for it I'll rent it again, and see, then possibly buy it. I just wanna know what the difference is. Especially u cry babies who complained about it in FNR3, and just LOVED the fact that it wasnt in Rd 4. I'm wiling to bet most of those cry babies are the ones online stick mashing now, throwing 1200+ punches in a match. I personally used buttons, but was not a button masher. I actually "boxed" tho. imo, its the same thing whether its buttons or sticks.Tags: None -
Re: Stick mashers vs. button mashers
lol, exactly! Thats why I couldn't play this game for no longer than a day before i took it back to blockbuster. I don't get the ppl they say TPC is sim(rotating a stick clockwise from 12 to 3, then straight up to the right, counterclockwise to from 6 to 12= one heck of a combo! lol, what a joke). Cuz ur right, u usually don't know what ur going to throw when ur mashing. if ur button mashing, u can actually throw good combos at least, and know what ur doing. I just hope all those ppl like myself who opposed buying the game cuz it was w/o button config actually followed through and didn't support EA.Comment

Re: Stick mashers vs. button mashers
That's interesting. This has to be said, especially to those who are against buttons, and the button mashers. I'm a button user.. not a masher, and never, ever, not once.. ever have I been beaten by a masher.. ever. Yet people swear up and down the TPC is gods gift to boxing and is so much better.. blah blah. This game just proved a valuable lesson.. which everyone already knows. You-can-stick-mash.. and in this game it seems to be even worse!
I'm not trying to rub it in.. but it erks me to no end to have someone belittle a person who uses buttons setup as button mashers with out skill.. that's the most absurd thing I've heard since the dawn of the fighting games.
I'm actually very interested in what real, honest, mature, TPC users think about this. Not the biased little kids who are going to try to pull an excuse out of their a$$.Last edited by vision; 06-30-2009, 05:44 PM.Comment

Re: Stick mashers vs. button mashers
I find that most of the guys that are happy there are no buttons are the ones who've been getting beat.
They're were looking for a neutralizer. And now they have it.
Kinda like wrestling your little brother and your Mom makes you play on your knees to make him feel better. The Lord is my shepard.Comment

But, don't come on here spouting off about controls that aren't even right. But it looks like you didn't to like the game going in based on the "support EA" comment.
Oh well. You don't like it you don't like.Moderator

Re: Stick mashers vs. button mashers
This is probably why you didn't like the game. This aren't even the right controls for TPC. Moving the right stick up on a 45 degree angle to the left of right is a jab. Learn the right controls and then let me know how you feel about the game.

Re: Stick mashers vs. button mashers
Yeah I was alll for eliminating the buttons before but looking back, there's no way for me to know whether I'm gonna throw a hook or uppercut with the sticks.
The reaction time needed is what hinders the sticks. Although I love them for haymakers. The system in FN3 was cool to me, but I guess I'll get used to the new gameComment

Re: Stick mashers vs. button mashers
If you want buttons then grab a quarter and head to the arcade for some punch out. The tpc is excellent if you are willing to learn it. Sure you can smash like button lovers but those that are sim will jab and move and learn how to throw the punch they want
They do not care for a cheay cheay and know that if I press the blue button I will throw this punch with no concept of skill at all
Buttons are like directional pad....old and outdated and require no learning curve
Stick movement allows for user to fail or succeed on their skill levelComment

A TPC stick movement is not more sim than a button press. You've been fooled into thinking just because it takes more effort to throw 3 hooks in a row, it is somehow more of a "sim". No.. it's just unessecarily tedious. When you want to punch someone in the face in the real world you "press" a button in your head that says "throw hook now". Your brain makes an energy impulse to your arm, and you throw a punch. It's immediate. You don't need to do a trig problem to initiate your hook. You can also "mash" in real life like a fool, and swing your arms wildly. Honestly, how many people here have every really boxed, or been in a fight?
Again.. I can play with TPC, but IMO it is not the best configuration for a fighting game.Last edited by vision; 07-01-2009, 01:51 PM.Comment

Re: Stick mashers vs. button mashers
No offense, but you kind of missed the point. What stick twirl does what isn't the point here. Point is, TPC has the potential to become a huge mess.. as it's clearly being shown online. I'm not going to knock TPC it entirely.. I've been able to enjoy the demo. To me, it's still not as intuitive or fun as using buttons. Just don't come in here telling me the TPC is "real" and more of a sim to true life boxing, or some crazyness. Because It is not.
Trust me, I was one of the main people complaining about what needs to be done against button mashers last year."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Re: Stick mashers vs. button mashers
i really have enjoyed this game with no buttons. But that doesn't mean with buttons it won't be better. IT WILL BE.
WHY?
because with buttons you will get 99.99 percent accuracy with the punches you want to throw. With the TPC, I think I'm up to 95 percent, and it won't go up .
bottom line is TPC is just not as good. It's good yes, but buttons were excellent.Comment

Re: Stick mashers vs. button mashers
Not to pick either side for or against buttons, but from what i see more than half the people that complain about TPC talk about it as if it is a punch randomizer i.e. "I dont know if im gonna throw a hook or upper cut" if you learn how to use the joystick that wouldn't be a problem. So that means more than half the people complaining are complaining about the learning curve.Comment
